It's also in line with what every other ally has said. Or even how conflicted most people feel. Not sure why his statement is getting hate when it's the closest to reality.

This one actually bothers me. From my (admittedly limited) experience working in that area of the world and researching/studying/learning about the different parts of the Iranian military, what I understood was that the Iranian Navy is one of the least dogmatic/fanatical of the services. That mantel belongs to the IRGCN. The IRN are primarily national in their perspective, wanting to serve the country and it's people, not the Supreme Leader. This vessel was hundreds of miles away from the combat area and posed no threat to US forces while it was off the coast of Sir Lanka. They should have been afforded the opportunity to put into a neutral port and tie-up for the duration of the "war" or scuttle their ship if need be. Instead, reports indicate that over 100 sailors are now dead, and I don't think that was necessary.

Or maybe I just have a soft spot for sailors, regardless of their nation.

As of today, the single active service sub they had is said to be sunk (IRIS Fateh '920').

Destroyed: 17 Iranian Navy ships, including 1 submarine, says US admiral​

That leaves them with 1 that was undergoing trials (Fateh 2 '921') and 2 under construction (Fateh 3 '922' & Fateh 4 '923')

They have always gone to war with at least a coalition of the willing. There were 40 countries in the Iraq invasion. It was a force multiplier and gave the Americans moral cover for their actions.

Since this was a war of choice on dubious grounds with not much for assets in theatre required to achieve any of the stated or suggested objectives, going alone with one small ally is a questionable choice at best. Failure to make a case to the American public on the necessity of this action is another.
