"MISSING" The Story of L/Cpl. George Pollard.

C’est dans le château d’Audrieu que s’installe l’état-major du S.S.-Aufklärungsabteilung 12 (12. S.S. Panzer-Division Hitlerjugend) commandé par le S.S.-Standartenführer Gerhard Bremer. (Audrieu en 1944 pendant la bataille de Normandie) Last June, there was a book fair (history books on WW2) at...

Hi! Sorry for this late reply of mine. Yes, well, Greg(ory) is still alive for sure! Thank you for giving me his email address. He sent his book which is not, unfortunately for potential readers, on sale anymore.

Bonjour, I guess you're talking of Bretteville-sur-Laize which is one of the two main Canadian war cemeteries over here (along with Bény-sur-Mer which is North of Caen). It's also known under the name Cintheaux at times. Here are two photos I have taken there. If you like, I can send you new...

"MISSING" The Story of L/Cpl. George Pollard.

Today was held the annual ceremony at the Abbaye d'Ardenne. A few Canadian officials and military were attending the event, delivering their speeches and saying prayers. A large number of wreaths were thereafter laid by French regional and local authorities. Nous, Normands, n'oublions pas.

I went to Fontenay-le-Pesnel late this afternoon. Here are a few pictures. Pic from the War cemetery: you will have to imagine the very spot somewhere along the main road in the distance ; Pic of Pierre-Alexandre POTIRON: he is the Town-Hall secretary whom you may send emails to (email address...

I have just had a look at the video. I have driven hundreds of times along that road without ever knowing. Sad there is no plaque. There should be at least something at the townhall reminding us of what happened. Maybe there's already sthg. I'll check asap

Bonsoir, Well, you must know the region better than I do ;-) I'm sending you a map. Can you tell me, please, which of the four road junctions you are referring to? The Château d'Audrieu seems to be out of reach for me, money-wise I mean... :-)) Nowadays, as you know, the Abbaye d'Ardenne is a...

Thank you for adding this valuable information. May I ask you where you got it from? I am no historian at all. As it happens, I live quite near the Abbaye d'Ardenne and can easily get there on foot... Norman weather permitting ;-) I have read the book by Ian J. Campbell. That's why I've...

"MISSING" The Story of L/Cpl. George Pollard.

Thank you for sharing your information. Many towns and villages were bombed and shelled here in Normandy in June-August, 1944. Some 80 years later, we can still see the aftermath here and there. Needless to say there are lots of war cemeteries, WW2 museums and other places to remind us of the...
