    Syria Superthread [merged]

Few thought that the Syrian regime’s promise to destroy its chemical weapons would be the end of the story. Brigadier-General Zaher al-Saket, a former chemical weapons chief in President Bashar al-Assad’s own army, certainly did not. Brig Gen Saket says he was ordered three times to use...

At long last , and after some delay....... http://wattsupwiththat.com/2011/08/24/breaking-news-cern-experiment-confirms-cosmic-rays-influence-climate-change/#more-45793 This could be the end of the AGW political movement.

    US Economy

I'll agree with that! Costs of compliance wrt. environmental regulation, paper burden and taxes and chain of supply costs have a huge net effect. And the "cash capture" model is not nearly complete in my opinion. There is more to value than cash! What was Marx's phrase......"means of...

    US Economy

I have a biased opinion, but I think jhk87 is exactly right. Balancing the US budget is important, but spending cuts and tax increases are only an "until next time" solution. What's very clear to me ( because I run a small industrial business ) is that, in the west, we use phrases like"post...

Dennis, I think Stelmach has to go along to get along...... You might be overlooking the flip side here, pumping CO2 into old oil wells provides a value and a return on the 1/2 Billion.

I've been following this on WattsUpWithThat and now there is a searchable database http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/11/21/cru-emails-search-engine-now-online/ Rumors abound ie. The hackers are Russian or "It was an inside job". Personally, I don't care. I do care about the content. There are...

    President Obama to Visit Canada

Ok. I did a quick read, and this popped out. This isn't the whole story is it?    ::)    All the same, I'm glad they havn't forgotten.  ;D

A Somber Bush Says Farewell to the Nation

Agreed, and perhaps maybe Rumsfeld needed to go sooner rather than later. But, who are we to judge?  ;)

A Somber Bush Says Farewell to the Nation

In a couple of years we are going to miss George. He can laugh at himself. I don't think Obama can. In truth GWB was not a fortunate as most presidents but he did do the right thing WRT the war on terror. If we review, we find  Clinton, for all of his popularity, sowed the seeds that resulted...

    Iran Super Thread- Merged

E.R. I suspect the new axis upon which the middle east turns became open for discussion once the "surge" had succeeded.  That is, Arab states and Israel being on the same side of anything together, was un-speakable until Iraq was approximately decided. Or so it seems .... ::)

Kirkhill I read this today on Tom Nelson's blog..... Mysteriously the links broke some time today........ I also found this..... I'm afraid I don't share your optimism about the big "O" and his pragmatism. It might be more, a matter of "putting lipstick on a pig".  ;D

Perhaps correct - I dunno.  From what I understand, the problem is not the beetle pre se, but the fungus that the beetle carries. Much in the same manner as Dutch Elm Disease.  Has the fungus changed?  Has the beetle changed? Many funguses can be controlled by introducing another biological...

    What's your gas price? 2.0

It's 70.9 /l out here in refinery rowEdmonton. I still can't figure that out.  We pay the same for natural gas as they do in the lower 48 - except here it's life support - there it's a comfort. Gas same "anomaly". Ticks me off a little.

This article contrasts rather sharply with the CBC narrative. http://www.dailytech.com/Article.aspx?newsid=13834

    Global Warming/Climate Change Super Thread

Brad,  I suspect this kind of article is meant to reinforce the "tipping point" argument in a slightly veiled way. I don't know that beetles are the result of anything in particular, but if Mom drops her crystal platter on the kitchen floor, it had to be climate change. >:D
