My latest ponderings have me envisioning something like this:
One Reg Force Mechanized Division with two Brigades (1 x Tank and 2 x Mechanized Battalions in each) with a supporting Fires Brigade.
The personnel from the two remaining Mech Battalions and the 3rd Armoured and Artillery Regts...
I get it. The CAF has manning issues all around but if we use the excuse that our current personnel situation prevents us from planning for our future personnel needs then I guess it's useless to think about modernizing our military at all.
My understanding is that what VAdm Topshee was thinking about is a platform that has an ice-breaking hull that can self-deploy without an accompanying ice-breaker.
Hmmm...apparently the F-35 will be certified to carry the B61-12 nuclear gravity bomb internally. No wonder Israel isn't keen on Trump selling F-35's to Saudi Arabia.
My stab in the dark of what the RCAF fleet could possibly look like IF we were to go with a mixed F-35/Gripen fleet...
65 x F-35's in 2 x 24 aircraft squadrons focused on expeditionary missions where stealth is a key requirement (a significant increase over current NATO commitment) plus spares...
I'm 100% in the keep the F-35 camp (hopefully 88 but at least 65) but I'm not willing to ignore the possibilities presented by a potential Saab collaboration.
With or without a Gripen purchase for the RCAF the domestic production and especially R&D partnership would potentially give us a head...
