    Modern War in the IndoPacific

And there is a serious risk that if there are large scale kinetic attacks on both sides space assets there will be debris fields created in the orbital plane that will potentially impact all kinds of commercial space assets.

    Canada's tanks

Apparently there are several issues with mounting the engine at the front of the tank beyond increased heat signature across the frontal arc. Mobility kills would be more common as the engine is now facing the enemy the weight of the engine at the front (and additional armour to protect it)...

    Army Reserve Restructuring

This is good news. Achieving this will require some bold and out of the box thinking to achieve which is exactly the kind of mindset required from our military leadership in the current state of the World. I hope it carries over to how they attack the many other problems facing the CAF.

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

Maybe the reason that countries other than the US are going to single fleets of multi-role fighters is due to the ever increasing costs to make them good at everything. That leaves no money to purchase fighters that are more specialized. That doesn't mean in any way that the F-35 is "lacking"...

Indirect Fires Modernization Project - C3/M777 Replacement

The US trialing an ISV-mounted 81mm mortar system with 72 rounds onboard. Vehicle is transportable inside a CH-47 and can fire then be on the move in 2 minutes. https://defence-blog.com/u-s-army-evaluates-new-mobile-mortar-system/ With the assumption that unmanned systems will also be in...

    Guns or Drones or Both?

Russia has developed a UGV that launches UAVs to take out enemy UAVs. https://defence-blog.com/russia-unveils-robotic-air-defense-system/ Combined with the MG-toting UGV posted above we're seeing more and more of the actual trigger pulling of weapons being de-coupled from the weapon itself...

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

No, but your suggestion was that a split fleet of fighters is not comparable to the more generalized RCAF split fleet of C-130's, CF-18's and C-17's because each of those is specialized for it's role and therefore needs to be a different aircraft type. I'm simply pointing out that a single...

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

How similar are the roles of conducting a SEAD mission over Russian territory and flying a missile truck to shoot down incoming cruise missiles over Northern Canada?

RUMINT of Canada wanting more C-17's

My gut tells me that part of our pilot issue is that we don't have enough aircraft. We need a certain base number of pilots in non-flying staf positions to support the various capabilities that we have. When the fleet sizes are small then the ratio of staff positions to flying positions is...

RUMINT of Canada wanting more C-17's

Strategic airlift to my mind is VERY high on the list of priorities for the CAF and GOC so yes, I'd be happy to give up 100-200 positions elsewhere to expand that capability. As as for a "Reserve" squadron it doesn't necessarily have to be Reserve as in the sense of an additional active...

RUMINT of Canada wanting more C-17's

IF production of C-17's should actually restart I'd suggest that significantly expanding our fleet would be one of the best contributions to NATO/the Indo-Pacific that we could make. Strategic logistics support is definitely an area where the non-US West is seriously lacking. Two squadrons...

    Replacing the Subs

Interesting article. I'll admit to being a bit of a South Korea hawk when it comes to the chance to diversify our military equipment supply and take advantage of their willingness to allow domestic production. The KS III has some excellent and useful capabilities and Hanwha likely has a much...

    Canada's tanks

From what I've been able to find online it actually is quite hard to control FPV drones on the move. Leapfrogging faster, longer range UAV's is one thing because the supporting unit can still be far enough back from the front to be safe from small UAV's and the drones themselves are fast enough...

    Canada's tanks

The thing about UAV's is that (at least currently) the operators are stationary. They are extremely useful on a static front but much less useful if your force is on the move. That is part of the reason that advances are limited...the drone operators can't keep up with a quick/deep advance...
