Pushups- Try Reading Here First- Merged Thread

Not to start a pissing match re: "proper protocol", but it is not thumbs just under the shoulder.  It states hands under the shoulder area, and if just the thumbs were, I would ask you kindly to move your hands in.  I know for a fact that not all bases follow proper protocol,  and it is a real...

Pushups- Try Reading Here First- Merged Thread

The proper protocol is hands under the shoulder area ( I know, very clear).  The staff will look to see that your thumb and finger are under the area.  In other words, you cannot have your hands totally exposed, or totally under the shoulder (ie. tricep push-ups).  You pivot from the toes, body...

    heart rate

I was trying to give a more accurate way to find a training heart rate zone. I was also trying to shed some light on the "fat burning zone".  I'll keep it simple from now on.  Thanks.

    heart rate

60-90% is the CSEP and  ACSM guideline.  220-age-RHR * (60-90%) + RHR = THR zone (training HR zone). ie: 36 years old and resting HR of 56 bpm (beats per minute). 220-36-54 =130  130*60%=78  78+54=132, which is the bottom end. 220-36-54=130    130*90%=117  117+54=171, which is the top end...

    heart rate

Answer for kr1kit There is no absolute max HR.  That is an estimated age predicted max.  This number depends on fitness levels, as we are not all the same fitness level regardless if we are the same age.  Next, forget about "fat burning zones".  You should be training within 60-90 % of your HRR...

    2.4 Kilometer run times.

The protocol is back of the arms parallel to the floor, not 90 degrees (as there are different arm lengths).  As for the body touching the ground, if it is incidental, then it isn't a problem.  ie: someone with a large chest or stomach.  As long as they are not pausing at the bottom, it should...

BMQ September 2007 - ALL locations Thread

I was talking schools (in terms of training).  If there is another base with more schools then I stand corrected.  My main point being it is not Connaught, especially for basic.  Thanks.

BMQ September 2007 - ALL locations Thread

Really?  Seems to me that Borden is the biggest, and main training base for the CF.  Also, the facilities for BMQ are second to none.  Ie: the field house, the main gym. the private recruit training room (brand new circuit/weights/spin bikes), and the 2 pools.  I'm not sure if it is almost like...

    2.4 Kilometer run times.

I was being a bit sarcastic there...those are good times obviously, but we were talking about people in the military and not track athletes.  I am well aware of the fitness program for basic (and training for the specialty tests) since I am responsible for administering it/them.  You are...

    2.4 Kilometer run times.

Wow, we should sign them up for the special forces as that would put near the top of the pack for applicants to JTF-2.  Are you sure about the distance?

    2.4 Kilometer run times.

We will be able to answer all your CSOR/JTF questions at the end of BMQ.  There is a class at the end that is specifically for the purpose of answering any questions the recruits in our (2 assigned PSP staff) platoon have.  There is not enough time during PT classes and morning runs to answer...

ExPres test and being over age 40

Just to clarify a few things.  First, if a PSP staff told you the score you needed, they shouldn't have.  It is meant as a screening device.  If you knew what you needed, obviously you would answer to get that score, even if you weren't telling the truth.  It isn't perfect, but it screens out...
