Verification of Former Service (VFS) [Merged]

@ Skeletor - yes, the infantry corps badge. I wasn't sure what to call it JHunt - thanks for the information. That's a pity and I certainly hope you're wrong, but at least I'm forewarned now if you're not ><

Verification of Former Service (VFS) [Merged]

Like a couple of other guys who have posted in here, I was advised by CoC/BPSO that as a member who was not MOC qualified, it would be in my best interest to leave (Release item 4c.) and rejoin the forces in the trade I wanted as opposed to waiting on a VOR that would take (insert vague estimate...

    Royal Marines Fitness Training Tool

I'm fine with how it was worded, it's not my job to spell things out for you - take from it whatever you want. My military experience is zero until august, if that wasn't abundantly clear from the first post in this thread - and others made on this very forum. "Use the search function." At...

    Royal Marines Fitness Training Tool

Alright I'll bite. I was being cheeky, and any claims or assumptions you took from my post are of your own creation. Full stop. Negative. They do the PRMC which is basically just an extended fitness test. The RM Commando course IS basic training for Royal Marines. That information is available...

    Royal Marines Fitness Training Tool

Is there any particular reason why I should do so? I was only half joking. I think the RM website is a quantifiable factor in their high success rate, considering how tough the course (at least appears) to be. It has a huge amount of information on what will be expected of recruits, what is...

    Royal Marines Fitness Training Tool

I bet it wouldn't be if they had this tool to prepare with :D Well, SF courses aren't really comparable to a basic infantry course for guys coming right off the street. The point is well taken, though.

Military Intellectual Blasts Endless PowerPoint Briefs

That would certainly take the guesswork out of getting to the point.

    Royal Marines Fitness Training Tool

I've found the Royal Marines website to be immensely useful for circuit training and whatnot in preparation for BMQ and beyond. In fact, in my opinion DND could learn a thing or two from their website, the sheer amount of information available has to be conducive to convincing people to take the...

Military Intellectual Blasts Endless PowerPoint Briefs

I was about to post the AFJ essay, but you beat me to it in the last post of the thread. I think his point is well taken that by briefing by memo, in proper paragraph and page form, it forces the briefer to fully consider the point being made, rather than relying on bullets points or half formed...

Fair enough, but if everyone refrained from posting things that are a waste of bandwidth on this site the forum wouldn't need to be subdivided.

Does the Navy still train to repel boarders?

Sadly, we no longer execute amphibious landings to rescue beautiful italian nobles either :( Ramage and Bolitho are great series.

US military 'should ban smoking' - BBC News

Well, their Navy is dry, is it not? And what could be more synonymous with the navy than drinking? Not being a smoker myself, I won't claim I know how difficult it is to quit. I grew up with 2 smoker parents, though my mother did successfully quit - my father has never tried, and I do believe...

Verification of Former Service (VFS) [Merged]

I would imagine that if you kept a copy of all your documentation, preferably in something fireproof, the process would be streamlined. If DND has to go digging to find documentation of your previous career, you've gotta know it will take a bit.
