Interresting to read this thread in light of our (CF) going with LEO2 and deploying not only our old LEO1's but buying LEO 2in less time than this thread has been alive. I have a bias toward the LAV family.  But I have always thought the MGS was a poor idea.  Glad to see we are no longer...

In the ONTR, to distinguish Cpl and MCpl we used a collar dog over the two hooks, that way it was in line with the current rank structure.  Reasoning was it was easy, it was Reg't Dress and it was less confusing on all involved.

I agree, after 24 years in I like being an officer and dinning with my peers and subies.  Combined messes are a bad thing, ok for a short time, but bad in the long run.  Young soldiers don't want all the bosses watching, and the boss likes to let his/her hair down too! :)
