Sounds like we should be keeping that 100% tariff on Chinese EVs…On the subject of Chinese cars or any cars with Chinese components - the Brits are wary too.

Meanwhile, the new Japanese PM is rolling up her sleeves...
How the Japan PM's Taiwan remarks provoked the fury of China
Over the past few days, China and Japan have been locked in an escalating war of words.
It all started when Japan's new Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, suggested that if China attacked Taiwan then Japan could respond with its own self-defence force.
Since then, foreign ministries on both sides have lodged serious protests with the other, with Beijing summoning the Japanese ambassador. A Chinese diplomat also made what some interpreted as a threat to behead Takaichi.
The spat touches on the historical animosity between China and Japan, as well as longstanding "strategic ambiguity" on the sovereignty of Taiwan.

China and Japan in escalating spat over Taiwan: What to know
Sanae Takaichi drew fire after suggesting Tokyo could take military action if Beijing attacked Taiwan.www.bbc.com
Japan now intends on putting a surface to air missile battery on one of their islands, a mere 110km east of Taiwan. And overall it seems both appear to be open to deepening ties with each other.

Japan to deploy missiles to island near Taiwan, Defence Minister says
Japan is planning to station medium-range surface-to-air missiles on Yonaguni. Read more at straitstimes.com. Read more at straitstimes.com.www.straitstimes.com
I did not realize that the Japanese islands extended that close to Taiwan, that certainly helps Taiwan and the allies resupply the island and become major problems for China.
That's quite a bit to pack on an island that is just under 29 square km (about 2/3 the size of CFB Esquimalt). Would be a pretty juicy target for an opening strike by China with not many places to hide.![]()
Japan's Plan To Put SAMs On Strategic Island 70 Miles From Taiwan Could Be Just The Beginning
Yonaguni Island recently hosted U.S. Marines and now Japan is looking to deploy air defenses there, which could expand to other kinetic capabilities.www.twz.com
Japanese Air Defense fortress established on Japanese soil in peacetime, 70 miles (110 km) from Taiwan. Sovereign right to do so.
Thicken Japanese defense with a USMC MLR equipped with 250 km NMESIS JSMs, an Air Defence battalion of its own and a security force.
Add a USMC HIMARS battery or two with 500 km PrSM anti-ship and anti-structure weapons.
Top off with a US Army MDTF with more HIMARS and PrSMs, along with Mk70 PDS trucks with 1500 km Tomahawks and multi-function SM6s. And the TF brings its own Integrated Air and Missile Defence battalion as well.
Expect the Hypervelocity Missile with 2800 km range to be along shortly.
Altogether China has multiple war fighting problems. No problems if it stays peaceful but attacking Taiwan might present problems with access to the open sea, put its Navy at risk, its harbours at risk, its command centers at risk ....Beijing at risk.
....
Back to the hybrid game.
