Self driving vehicles

I take a lot of taxis. Looking forward to the day they make them self-driving.

Took Argo recently. Not self-driving , but convenient. Just tap your PRESTO.

More demand for logistics than fire support.

"the lifespan of a logistics robot is decreasing "very rapidly." "

"In Ukraine's northeastern Kharkiv region, for instance, a robot might survive only three or four missions; in other areas, it could survive more — maybe 15 or 20."

....

"Ground robots have carried out more than 66,000 missions so far this year,"

"Ukraine's defense ministry said in late July that Kyiv had contracted more than 22,000 ground robots since the start of 2026, nearly double last year's total."

"Ukraine's state-backed innovation platform Brave1 said last week that the military has ordered more than 3,000 robots from its marketplace since it launched last year, including over 640 units in July."

"Zelenskyy set a target for companies to produce 50,000 by the end of 2026,"

....

"Dozor said all logistics and casualty evacuation in the kill zone — an area surrounding the front lines that's heavily saturated with drones — are being carried out by ground robots."

"His unit uses "universal platforms and appropriate modules that can be quickly removed or installed," he said, explaining that an assault robot can be tasked with logistics in two hours. "This helps to perform any tasks and quickly prepare robots for them.""

....

"The most common missions for ground robots right now are logistics, said the commander of a UGV unit in the Lava Regiment of Ukraine's 2nd "Khartia" Corps, who requested to be identified by his call sign Mathematician for security reasons.

"Mathematician said finding enough robots for these missions is the "biggest problem." His repurposes robots armed with machine guns — typically sent on assault missions — for logistics to make up for the deficit, but that comes at a different operational cost.

""We cannot be doing some fire support missions because we don't have enough UGVs," he said."

....

The need is for Universal Carrier (Bren Carrier) and General Purpose (GP - Jeep) vehicles. Simple, low cost platforms that can haul bullets, beans and bandages as well as stretchers or can mount palletized weapons systems.

I was thinking that a UGV with the torso of a bipedal robot might be useful, can travel far, have larger batteries, can do a lot of it's own navigating and handle small tasks along the way or at the site they were going to. You can call it a Centaur.

I get the distinct impression that you've been waiting to use that phrase since self driving vehicles first appeared . *

* My one regret is that I didn't get to use it first !😆

Using natural language prompts, a single operator can task and orchestrate an entire fleet of these AGVs simultaneously—without teleoperation or remote control."

UGVs (Uncrewed Ground Vehicles) now being superseded by AGVs (Autonomous Ground Vehicles).

"...In a joint U.S. military exercise in Africa this year, Army officers estimated that two AGVs replaced 40 humans, allowing troops to move faster with more protection. The vehicles reduced distribution time on a drop zone by 52 percent at another recent military event. During breaching, one of the most dangerous tasks for troops, service members face extreme casualty rates. When fully autonomous vehicles are deployed, humans are removed from the most dangerous places on the battlefield, life expectancy skyrockets, and more U.S. troops can return home to their families. "

"Leveraging proprietary software and hardware, Overland AI’s AGVs can sense and navigate the world around them independently, overcoming obstacles such as boulders, dense vegetation, steep slopes, and unexpected ditches at tactically relevant speeds. They can do this even when signals are degraded or lost entirely. Using natural language prompts, a single operator can task and orchestrate an entire fleet of these AGVs simultaneously—without teleoperation or remote control."
