They technically were not Light.
There where a smattering of AVGP’s, and IIRC 3VP had 2 TUA

The CAR was the only regular force Light Infantry entity.

Most PRes units were light, simply due to lack of equipment.

In the post 9/11 era, parts of the Army have tried to kill light forces — heck prior to 3VP deploying on Op Apollo there was a plan to shutter all the LIB’s.
It came back on and off every few years.
At a time there was a plan for all Reg BN’s to have 2 LAV Coy and a Coy without LAV

Even if there was infinite money there simply isn’t enough time in the training days to be proficient at everything.
Tier 1 SMU’s have had to face that reality.

So it simply makes sense to have specific Light units, specific LAV units, and specific heavier units (I do not accept the LAV as an IFV for Tank Infantry combined operations).

E and F Bty at least during my day when they had the L5’s) used 5/4’s as gun tractors.

One reason I’m not so anti Hummer type vehicle for a gun tractor, is I never thought the MLVW and then the SEV Gun Tractor versions where very practical. While not as massive as an HLVW, they were way bigger than they needed to be. Making both an huge signature and causing untold damage to ankles, knees and backs (and more) of the poor gun numbers in back during dismounting for coming into action.

I’d rather 2 Hummer sized vehicles for a gun Det than one large.

Yeah. That was the real plus point for the L5. At 2,800 lbs it was pretty much fine for a 5/4 and not even the 3/4 had much trouble with it in most circumstances. Lifting by Huey with an underslung ammo net was dead simple. Even a Griffon could handle that.

I never got the idea of the solo Para Coy - there was no organized exercises between the Para Coy’s, for a while 3 VP’s Para Coy would try to steal folks from 1 VP for Cas Para into ex’s to to to fill bodies.

Regimental and unit names can evolve over time. CSOR was originally called the Joint Action Task Force.

Some years ago I recall para company in Petawawa being the "senior company" that soldiers from the rifle companies had to earn their way into. Similar to recce and sniper platoon.

Now the para company takes soldiers right off their DP1, same with recce.

We would need to pull 3 companies spread over 3000 kms distance, and each of those companies would need to pull parachute qualified members from other companies if you wanted full strength ones.

I would imagine each parachute company is going to have some noticeable differences in how they operate on the ground.

I meant do we have the aircraft to get all of them there, assuming we actually have enough of them.

That's been one of my bugbears for a long time. I understood it in the days a century ago when we were at pains to point out we weren't British, despite our uniforms, but now it just seems like we're so insecure we need to label everything as "Mine! Mine! Mine!"
