    Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

Maybe you refer to this one... but it's a Cormorant, sorry. http://www.navy-marine.forces.gc.ca/assets/NAVY_Internet/images/news-nouvelles/2020/hdw-at-sea/harry-dewolf-1.jpg

    Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

I think this comparison is not fair. Can't compare helicopters, which are usually bought/manufactured/supplied by dozens to vessels, rarely ordered beyond ten units (only RCN Type 26, US Navy ships and a few more examples).

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

A good feature of both Japanese and Korean shipbuilding structure for their respective Navies is that the two companies do build same ship-classes (and boats): Mitsubishi/Kawasaki heavy industries or Daewoo/Hyundai. The fact is that we're talking about only one Polar icebreaker, but if we...

More on Davie and the CCG's icebreakers: http://www.canadiandefencereview.com/news?news/3024 There is a statement there I don't fully understand " This includes the first fully converted icebreaker CCGS Jean Goodwill which, along with the delivery of CCGS Captain Molly Kool, represents...

I fully agree. Just to remind an old and closed dispute.

    Canadian River Class Destroyer Megathread

From the previous pdf it seems like speed is finally 27 knots. Nevertheless they're so smart as to avoid stating "TOP speed". Might Alion be right on his claim about speed? Only a few ones will know, I doubt the final figure will ever be public, for obvious reasons (reserved data).

Why not? The AOPS already has got some round holes at the fore ... for oars, hahaha. :-)

Russia in the 21st Century [Superthread]

Not sure this is the correct thread, but it might be... I just want to share an interesting article on Russian Arctic and Sino-Russian relationship. Hope you enjoy it. https://www.aspistrategist.org.au/russia-and-china-in-the-arctic-assumptions-and-realities/

    Replacing the Subs

Thanks a lot for the interesting links. Don't want to dissapoint you, but it's also good to look at what our allies do. Astute, Barracuda (Suffren) or Type 212 don't have VLS fitted, even though they have been launched in the last 20 years, meaning VLS were already fitted in Los Angeles class...

    Replacing the Subs

Buying just 4-6 Astutes or Suffrens, would be nice especially to patrol the Arctic. The time for such deal is now, for UK/ France to put them in their production line. In one decade they both will end their SSN building program and start with their next generation of SSBNs. Purchase should be...

    Canadian River Class Destroyer Megathread

The UK said they were going to build 8x T26 plus 5x T31s. Up to now have order only 3 & 5 respectively. Wouldn't be much surprised to finally see 6 + 8 due to the high cost of the T26. Similarly the RCN could end up with 6-9 x T26 and 9-6 x T31 or equivalent, but at least no less than six units...

    Replacing the Subs

Both Japan and south Korea are good examples of planning  and continuous production, both for warships and subs. Long times between batches make loss of design and know-how capabilities. These are to make a case study. Back to korean boats...

    Replacing the Subs

Let me drop an open question for which myself have no clear answer... would it be smart to buy 4 SSNs from UK (Astute class) or France (Barracuda class)? As they are, with minimum canadianizing to avoid or minimize cost overruns, project risks and delays. Both countries will finish their...

    Replacing the Subs

AIP usually needs a big amount of stored LOx (liquid oxygen), either for the stirling engine or for the fuel cells, so that oxygen needed for the crew to breath for 2-3 weeks is only a small fraction of the stored LOx (quite below 5%). Replenish oxygen to the boat in case of fire should not be a...

French new POM would be an updated MCDV: 1300 tons, limited crew (30), small gun and not even lillypad for helicopter. https://fr.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrouilleur_Outre-mer Instead, if we are looking for true corvettes, six of these might be useful and would provide commonalities with allies...

    Status on Victoria-class Submarines?

In Spain two companies are competing to provide the reformation system for spanish S80 AIP submarine. Tecnicas Reunidas and Abengoa. It is expected that the winner will be announced this month, bets are in favour of the first one. Both reformators produce hydrogen from bio-ethanol to feed the...
