University Training Plan NCM (UTPNCM) 2005 - 2018 [Merged]

This is not correct per CFAO 11-6 which to my knowledge has yet to be superseded. MS/PO2 in UTPNCM receive simultaneous promotion to Lt. The new student guide references an unpublished DAOD, 5200.

University Training Plan NCM (UTPNCM) 2005 - 2018 [Merged]

I don't believe that was the case - my CoC pushed to get me promoted to PO2 (substantive) before entering the programme in order to get the 1Lt on grad, but on closer inspection I never found any stated requirement beyond substantive MS/MCpl. Definitely agree on the mess of regulations.

University Training Plan NCM (UTPNCM) 2005 - 2018 [Merged]

I got my commissioning message a couple of weeks ago and still says simultaneous promotion to 1Lt. "5.  PROMOTED IMMEDIATELY TO LT. AUTH PAY UNDER PROVISION OF CBI 204.211 PARA(4) AND REF E" Ref E is CBI 204.09, though those are pay documents. There would have to have been something...

"So You Want To Be A Pilot" Merged Thread 2002 - 2018

There is presumably still swimming in basic training, and you do pilot-specific sea survival training in which you spend a lot of time in seawater and being dragged behind a small selection of boats. I found the course pretty fun and got a lot out of it.

    Current backlog for flight training?

Zero, or at least no more than average than any other CF course. I know several DEOs who completed BMOQ in the spring who are now on PHII - it's that fast. Even stream selection in PHII is going most candidates' way (I don't expect that to carry on forever). Backups are now at the OTU level...

University Training Plan NCM (UTPNCM) 2005 - 2018 [Merged]

From where did you get this information? There is no evaluation criteria that directly measures how much university you have done - anything you can do to build related skills and experience is what they are after. If more post secondary is best for whatever job you want, then OK. That is not...

    Fighter Pilot

It was certainly cancelled this summer for people on subsidized education (I was scheduled, now it's more OJT [I think, no one has let me know]), although I can't see it being exclusively due to Seneca. Surely they can get those folks on one course? I was told that I would be re-loaded next...

    RMC with fiance and baby??

Yes it's possible but it's very unlikely and certainly will take longer than a couple of years. If you think ROTP is competitive, in-service commissioning is more so. It takes 3-4 years before even becoming eligible to apply, after which you are up against people with more years of service and...

    Aircrew Selection/ACS (Merged)

That's pretty obviously a navigator ("ACSO" for the new guys). ATCs are more like a disembodied voice, which I think is in principle hard to represent via picture...

CEOTP (Continuing Ed Officer Trg Plan) 2003-2018 [Merged]

Moreover, I'm fairly sure the years remaining required are to compulsory retirement, not years left on contract. If you get selected for such a program I'm sure they'd be happy to offer new TOS as required as long as it doesn't run you over the 60 year old mark. "WITH MIN YRS OF SVC REMAINING...

    Pilot/Engineer Officer Dilemma

I'm in my late 30s and in better physical shape than many of the RMC "kids" I OJT with. I am absolutely in better shape than I was when I was 25. There is no real reason your health will "decline" in your 30s if you actively, intelligently stay fit over the course of your life (outside of...

    Airframe selection after BFT

I had two+ years of university, and OPMEs, too. Flying experience is not worth very much on your application. It's your prerogative if you want to finish your CPL, but cost/benefit is way out of whack as far as an application goes. Something like PLQ is worth a lot more, they like seeing OPMEs...

    Airframe selection after BFT

It's basically exactly the same as when you were on your threes, although that was mostly an appearance of making a choice rather than an actual choice. You go where there's room, where they need people or where they otherwise think you should go. Sometimes the needs of the CF fit pretty well...

    Regular Officer Training Plan (ROTP)-RMC 2000 - 2018 [Merged]

To the second part, yes, and most other universities work the same way - there are a bunch of courses you must complete before you can declare a major, it's not a free for all. Look here http://www.rmc.ca/aca/ac-pe/index-eng.asp and open the undergraduate studies calendar. The information you...

Halifax Accommodations and Things To Do Thread [merged]

I was last there in 2011 and it wasn't that bad (not great, mind you). A lot of that describes the transient quarters that house who-knows-who for short periods. You will have a room ready and waiting for you, but still almost certainly it will be double occupancy. Maybe they have put better TVs...

    Regular Officer Training Plan (ROTP)-RMC 2000 - 2018 [Merged]

You would be good to proceed to the actual eye testing, yes. 20/60 is a broad guideline, you have to meet the actual published refraction standards (i.e. diopter stuff). That can vary pretty wildly even in people with the same 20/[whatever] measurement.

Halifax Accommodations and Things To Do Thread [merged]

Valhalla moved to Langford a couple of years ago so it's probably not that. But yeah, MEC spans the block from Johnson to Pandora along Government. Everyone else has covered it, but to reiterate, if you like getting hammered at dozens of packed pubs and bars in one night, boy is Halifax the...

    Regular Officer Training Plan (ROTP)-RMC 2000 - 2018 [Merged]

Do you have 20/60 vision when you're not wearing your glasses? That's the answer to your question. If you're worse than 20/60 without your glasses you don't meet the broad vision standard. The more specific requirements are available online somewhere (refraction numbers per eye and so on). I...

    Normal or abnormal situation?

Keep in mind that the minimum entry qualification for any NCM is 17 years old with grade 10 (not that that will get you in these days but...). The career arc is structured from that starting point. You may end up very quickly disillusioned as an NCM, as you are literally told how to suck eggs...
