Yes, and we now have more than a year's worth of research and experience to inform decisions and priorities. Is it unreasonable to prioritize vaccinations based on current information (and modelling)? Does prioritizing a group that is not at risk - at the expense of a group that is - make sense?

Bit of a gamble prioritizing kids based on an as-yet hypothetical threat, at the expense of a demographic that we know is more at risk right now.

Change of Command - RAWC 2021: Are We "getting it right"?

Correct. MGen St-Louis was COS of 1 CAD years ago, as a Colonel.

Change of Command - RAWC 2021: Are We "getting it right"?

I believe it was MGen St-Louis at 1 CAD a few years ago, if I'm not mistaken.

While technically it's not a variant, I think "COVID 19, Chinese Variant" is much less politically-loaded than the other alternatives being debated. It will definitely be interesting to read the report on the origin of the Virus, if we ever find out.

Yes, "variant". No blame assigned or implied.

I haven't heard any doctors or researchers refer to "China Virus" or "CCP Virus". Only politicians, or those wishing to make a political statement. I also haven't heard any doctors / researchers refer to "Her Majesty's Government's Variant" or the "Brazil Virus". It's common knowledge that...

Calling COVID 19 by it's official, and widely-used name has nothing to do with politics, or one's political views. Can the same be said for referring to it as "China Virus, Wuhan Flu, CCP Virus"?

As a matter of fact, the naming convention has changed. Back in 2015. https://www.who.int/news/item/08-05-2015-who-issues-best-practices-for-naming-new-human-infectious-diseases

Perhaps the fact that "Chinese" refers not only to a nationality, but also to an ethnicity is why there is more sensitivity surrounding proper nomenclature for this virus.

There is a difference between referring to where a variant is first observed, and insinuating that a virus was engineered and released (accidentally or deliberately) by a country's government.

A few snippets from the NACI recommendation: "Data from the two clinical trials for mRNA vaccines (Pfizer-BioNTechFootnote 1 and ModernaFootnote 2) provide evidence that indicates that efficacy against symptomatic disease begins as early as 12 to 14 days after the first dose. Excluding the...

Thanks for clarifying and including the proposed June vaccine deliveries. I think PuckChaser is not wrong to be sceptical, though, given the sometimes unpredictable delays in delivery. Hopefully the vaccines arrive as scheduled. I'll reiterate again that we've had our hands tied by a lack of...

While I'm not sure that a lack of supply is driving the third wave in ON, I agree that the chances of getting all Canadians their first shot by Canada Day is looking unlikely at this point, unless manufacturers can address their production and backlog issues.

Probably more appropriate to compare Canada to a similar country with no domestic production capability whatsoever. But that point was made and discussed pages ago. If Canada had maintained a domestic vaccine production capability, the various provincial restrictions could have probably been...

For the record, I'm not advocating stay-at-home orders or tightening of restrictions, although certain temporary restrictions seem to have impact where I live. I'll echo what other posters have mentioned: it would be helpful if public health officials would offer more data supporting /...

Actually, precisely 1 province has a stay-at-home order in effect. Most provinces have varying restrictions, but only Ontario has such an order in effect, and it's a bit early to be seeing any results, exactly 1 day in. Alberta implemented stronger social gathering restrictions in December...

Good post. Looks like Ontario still needs to ramp up administration of the vaccine, but at least the trend is showing improvement: 108,563 doses administered yesterday. https://covid-19.ontario.ca/covid-19-vaccines-ontario As far as increasing supply is concerned, I'm not sure what else...

Fully agree with this statement - but a similar lens can be applied to the federal distribution effort. The federal government is getting the vaccines out the door as soon as they can; they have no control over how quickly they arrive from the manufacturer - the sad reality due to a lack of...

Didn't mean to upset you - wasn't meant to be an aggressive post. You've been aiming a fair bit of blame at the Feds, and echoing Premier Ford's claims that federal vaccine deliveries have caused a backlog in Ontario's rollout. That's all I'm addressing. Other than production delays that are...
