    2014 Ontario General Election

The Liberals still red handed from a corruption scandal and an electorate and even their own party thinking of Horvath as a petty opportunist how could you lose?  Extremist dogma over sound financial planning. Don't cut for cuttings sake and don't cut faster than growth. The solution in Ontario...

Are we becoming a 'Police State'?

I do see limiting the political activity of police and the military as pretty self explanatory.  Healthcare workers or public service paper pushers much less so. It has more to do with their authority than the fact that they work in the public sector. I am curious if you are also against things...

    Election 2015

David Brat sounds like a hybrid of Tea Party and Occupy. “I am running against Cantor because he does not represent the citizens of the 7th District, but rather large corporations seeking insider deals, crony bailouts and a constant supply of low-wage workers." I wonder if he is electable...

Are we becoming a 'Police State'?

Corporations are collectives. Dollars equal votes in the form of shares so technically it is not much different except unions are more democratic. There seems to be two sets of standards and in some cases two sets of laws. One for the rich and powerful and a second rulebook for everyone else.

Are we becoming a 'Police State'?

I don't get how corporations and rich people's money can do whatever nefarious things it wants but money from democratically elected unions is somehow tainted by comparison. If money in politics is the problem unions are definitely not the biggest abuser of the system. I am in a union and our...

Suggestions on getting something across the border

Mail them a postal money order. I think they are about 5 bucks and over 15$ from a bank.

Are we becoming a 'Police State'?

Every single union in Canada is democratically elected. The are direct democracies with elections untainted by big money politics. They do what the members want or get turfed. If you are too lazy to vote and organize who is at fault? It's only 50% plus one to deceritfy but I can't remember the...

    Iraq in Crisis- Merged Superthread

Fallujah, then Ramadi and now Mosul. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. Henry V BATES "Ay, or more than we should seek after; for we know enough, if we know we are the king's subjects: if his cause be wrong, our obedience to the king wipes the crime of it out of us." WILLIAMS "But if...

Are we becoming a 'Police State'?

If corporate unions(business associations, Fraser Institute, etc.) can say what they want why not worker's unions? Seems a little unfair if only rich organizations get to talk. The problem is the checks in place now are not mandatory. The law states that if the Minister or AGs deem that...

    Legalized Prostitution

Can't the new law be taken down for the same reason the old one was? If you are buying a legal service but cannot do so safely isn't that also a charter violation? It looks to me like prostitutes can now abuse their clients much easier. Isn't legalization and regulation the best solution? Tax...

Are we becoming a 'Police State'?

We didn't just survive we thrived under those restrictions. Why are these new sweeping powers needed perpetually?

Are we becoming a 'Police State'?

Your inability to honestly deal with the problem shows exactly why the state should not have unlimited power. Do you not see any possible future scenario where the citizens of Canada may have to organize against a corrupted state?

Are we becoming a 'Police State'?

What was wrong with using a judge and a warrant? Why be able to lock up people on secret charges? Why does the  Minsister of Emergency Preparedness (now Public Safety) and the AG's need to be able to use the CSE and army domestically without public overisight or disclosure? We monitored...

Are we becoming a 'Police State'?

I stated the three new powers that were unnecessary since internment during WWII.  We did not need them during Korea or the cold war. Removing the limits on power and then saying that no transparency is needed is  not wise.

Are we becoming a 'Police State'?

These erosions of our freedoms are new and unnecessary. We were safer before the checks and balances on the power of the state were removed.

Are we becoming a 'Police State'?

We are not a police state but what has many people worried is that the infrastructure for a police state is being built up. The laws allowing the minister of emergency preparedness or the AG's of the provinces to use the CSE and army domestically, wholesale data collection and the legal...

Bemoaning The Lack of Sports in The CF? [merged thread]

Is it wrong that I miss the getting hammered even more than the athletics?  I say bring back both.

Fantino in/out of VAC: changes in DM/other staff (merged)

Maybe if Fantino hadn't ignored her repeatedly Jenny Migneault wouldn't be losing her crap. This is not her first time on the Hill. MacKay promised many things to spouses of completely disabled vets. I have the emails to prove it. Not one was kept of course. Programs in pamphlets do not equal...

Drones are just Airpower without the Adult Diapers - Vice News

DARPA has some really out there research projects. You can't get PTSD if you get your hippocampus zapped and can't transfer short term memories to long term storage. Memory wiping a squad once they get back inside the wire sounds like science fiction. But DARPA will pay for some mad scientists...
