RMC: Is it a university or college?

It was founded in 1876 at which time they did not grant university degrees to its students. They did not begin giving out degrees until about the 1960s from what I remember and they did not want to change the name because of tradition. And besides, Royal Military College sounds much better than...

    Regular Officer Training Plan (ROTP)-RMC 2000 - 2018 [Merged]

I entered under the junior program 5 years ago. I`m originally from Newfoundland and we had people from every province across Canada there with me. In total I believe we started with about 120-125 on prep year, finished with about 100 or a little less and the majority of the students were from...

A few of these topics, may as well make one of my own

Looking at those marks and some of those other things is almost like looking in the mirror at myself when I first applied. I had almost the same achievements and I got in...no problems. And one thing I should mention, if you don`t have any previous flying experience and want to be a pilot, don`t...

    join at 17?

I joined when I was 17 as well. I don't regret a thing. You asked if you should wait 6 months. If you are not ready now, I doubt you'll be ready in 6 months. what will be the difference in 6 months time? Just ask yourself: Am I ready to move out of the house on my own and start a real career? If...

    CF-188 Hornet, Canada's jet fighter

^^^^^^^^^^I don't think it can be said anymore perfectly than what PL just stated. What Canada needs is the Super Hornet.

    Average Education?

You do not need a degree to match your trade unless you are in an engineering trade (i.e, AERE, EME, CE...etc). I have a Business Degree and I'm a pilot...They have NOTHING to do with the other...

    New to it all

Talking to the Recruting Centre is the best bet. The know all of the different enrollment options that I`m kind of rusty on. Hope everything works out for you. As for me, I`ll be wasting away doing OJT in Bagotville until January 2007. Yup, thats how long the wait is for the Jaw. Best of luck to...

    New to it all

You could even go to RMC if you wanted. There was one guy who was a year behind me and he was 30 when he joined first year. Which means when he graduates he will be 34. But all you need is a degree to get your foot in the door.

    New to it all

Yeah you should be able to join as a Civie U ROTP. You might be able to apply as CEOTP (If the program is still offered). This is where you join up and do all of your training and you must have your degree within 7 years. However, i`m not sure if this is still offered.  If it is, JUMP on it...

    ROTP Process - Getting considered/Accepted

Well if he goes to a Civi U then he won't be doing the RMC fitness test. He would only do the CF EXPRESS Test.

    How did Militia training evolve?

I was speaking from my own experience. I`m not sure about other units across Canada, however, my old unit blasted me for calling it the militia. They said that "Army Reserves" is a much more politically correct term. However, if other others across the country still use the term "militia" then I...

    How did Militia training evolve?

From what I remember when I did it five years ago was that you do QL2 training during the winter months on selected weekends, evenings, and Easter (at least I did). Then during the summer, you would spend 8 or 10 weeks on QL3 at which point you would be trade qualified, i.e. infantry soldier...

    ROTP Process - Getting considered/Accepted

Don't let the physical scare you. When I did it, I couldn't even do the 2.4 km run in the alloted time. You don't do it for the test anyways, you do a step test where you walk up and down this little stair case of 2 steps. In my opinion, the CF physical test is a joke. The RMC physical test, on...
