I'm taking a straw poll and have gotten some good answers from others. Here goes.
My TV is almost exactly a third of a million bucks. I would have to put it away for 11 years in a LIRA. The alternative is $2100/month taxed etc. I have $80 grand in RRSPs already, so could last almost 5 years...
I believe you are correct with Von Moltke, but have also heard that
Those stupid and lazy, although unfortunate, can also be useful for ceremonial purposes.
To wit, many Canadian General Officers had been promoted above their heads after the first world war; the wise thing was to employ them...
I can only feel pity for the University President being so ignorant. I guess a trip to the library is beyond his means....
Maybe we could start a fund?
All the great powers of WW 1 had observers at the Civil war and knew the power of the machine gun. I consider them all war criminals for allowing the war to happen in the first place. Churchill especially was negligent. As first lord of the admiralty he was also in charge of intelligence and...
Are all pins covered by this? Do the employees wear any sort of name tag (even a sticker)? Obviously all of these must be covered. If this restaurant is concerned about items falling into food (and I have no problem with that) then ALL measures must be in effect. Their safety policy must be...
Anyone can be an activist about just about anything, so it really doesn't qualify a person better or smarter than others. I think it's kind of sad when the only descriptor someone has about their life is that they're an 'activist'.
Just being posted and with three cell phones, I called up Roger's and asked to have our numbers changed to the new area code. I figured that having been a good customer (look, two of my cells are for teenage girls) for twelve years they would be more than happy just to switch numbers. No...
Interesting, the Air Force wanted turbo props but when the specifications went for bid the Poseiden met them. Unintended consequences. Just like in the legal system - don't ask the question unless you already know the answer.
I'm sorry, but can't people see the obvious? If you don't have kids, who do you think will be around to visit? Horrifically expensive, emotionally draining, but the only surety to our future.
I read The Economist magazine as (to me) it gives the most objective reporting. In a recent issue it discussed the Afghan Army. Building large scale units take time, and now we are seeing some fruition. Incredibly, each week a whole battalion of 530 troops with officers graduating from...
I've just been posted so obviously must change area codes. My family has three cell phones. I called Rogers and a pleasant Lady spent almost 45 minutes going through my options. They came down to:
1. Cancelling all three phones at a cost of $1200 (!!!)
2. Changing plans at an additional...
Regarding pensions... let's face it, Captains make 50% more than Corporals... so while 70% is 70%, 70% of 1.5 is more than 70% of 1. Both are career ranks that don't require merit ranking. My 2 cents...
When I was 16 my father took me down to the reserve company of his wartime Regiment to see the CSM... 5 weeks later I was on winter ex. Probably a good decision.
This is a fine article on the detailed art of Realpolitics. Years ago there was a program called 'Balance of Power' in which could influence over 130 countries in various ways, from diplomatic to military to economic, both favourably and unfavourably. Problem was, these countries also had...

You did so extremely well, even I can't find a word to describe your excellence! You have the uncommon intelligence necessary to understand things that most people don't. You have an extensive vocabulary...
I believe the item destroyed has nothing to do with a reactor or fuel processing facility. What was destroyed was simply a water cooler for a reactor (or even a coal or gas fired generating station). In other words, this was one big PR exercise.
Starship Troopers here we come! Heinlein would be impressed. This begs the question - we've had this technology, why has it not been developed more quickly?
