Review sought after officer kills BC woman in New Brunswick

It's actually kind of funny because here we have protesters that are yelling for Police to be equipped for body cams in just the last week...we've been wanting them for YEARS...so thanks, I guess, for speeding things up.

Thank god they aren't trying to defund the fire department.

We carry C8's, remington 870's and just got our own ARV. You need to do a course to be able to use either, and even then there are only limited amounts per shift on the road, like 1-2 depending on the city. I can tell you they are definitely needed. Not being able to properly respond to a...

I mean, they can't be dealt with until they do something bad, can they? This isn't minority report for cops. Edmonton police are looking into the case it seems so he'll probably lose his job, not sure what else to comment on, i'm not the spokesperson for incompetent police in Canada.

Hmmm yes, that does look bad. Fortunately Police aren't "the borg" and not the same person. There are bad apples just like there are bad paramedics, bad firefighters, bad nurses, doctors, etc...unfortunately Police are the "bad guys" always and forever...until you need them.

I just saw that a local donut shop (whose customer base is probably 80% police) around the corner from one of our stations posted on instagram that they support the defunding of police. What a weird hill to die on.

Dealing with the homeless IS policing. I feel like your view of Police is pretty black and white - and does a disservice to the officers who will take that homeless individual (who they have established a rapport with over the years of interacting with them) and get them a coffee and some food...

Mhm. Tell me about it..the brass is already getting dumped on for participating in the blm march during the COVID-19 crisis. Some view it as hypocritical. My life hasnt changed since this started, havent missed a work day..only difference is I get to wear a mask every now and then.

What they describe in the article is what Canadian police services already do - community policing. From the article - “For us to make the neighborhood look and feel the way everyone wanted it to, it wasn’t going to be achieved by having a police officer with a helmet and a shotgun standing on...

Dispatching only paramedics and social workers won't work. We have a specialized unit that combines an officer with a mental health worker (not in service now due to COVID-19) that has proven to be very effective. Paramedics won't even check on people/enter a building where the patient is known...

David Dorn's death really got me. I got to page 5 of a google search before an article with his name even came up. It's a tough time right now, especially for Law Enforcement. Officers across the WORLD are paying for the incompetence of one (arguably 4) officer(s). We had a protest/march here...

No officer is ever trained to kneel on a suspect/subjects neck, at least not in America. Upper shoulder or lower back. Regardless of the how and why's, the optics (law enforcement is 50% optics these days...) are bad. Even if they were to release a full report saying his death was caused by drug...

I think using blanket statements like "all new young officers just want to power trip from the badge" aren't appropriate. I can't speak for all Police Services but at mine, the younger guys coming in have a great work ethic and bust their butt on calls, the old guard are the ones who actually...

Review sought after officer kills BC woman in New Brunswick

I work for a Police Service and unfortunately this isn't as easy as everyone makes it seem. Toronto PS had been the pilot project for body cams here in Ontario for awhile, the recent events with the woman who fell off her balcony trying to escape police just expedited the timeline for that it...

Happens all the time unfortunately. Welfare check was probably called in by a neighbour or someone she knew, clearly has MHA issues.

Basic starts this weekend. what to expect, any advice?

There was a 50 something old guy on my basic and he passed, just realize it's all a game and you'll be fine. Absorb as much information as you can, help out others when you can, all good.

Takes courage opening the front door at BMQ

There wasn't a lot of yelling when I went back in 2010, although I urge you to not wear a hat of any kind once you get off the bus. They did make a big show of going through all of our things and pointing out all the ridiculous stuff...one guy brought a foreman grill and a nettle pot for his...
