There are many educational institutions which offer free (tuition) to children of soldiers killed in action. For example Lakeland College here in Vermilion, Alberta has such a program. Check out other institutions, and I'm sure there are many that offer similar programs.

We are at $1.08/L out here. I'm right on the border of AB/SK. I am fortunate however in that I get to bill the oil companies for my fuel. ;D. Either mileage or cost plus 30%. Payback is a B@#ch.
The unions are not as powerful as those up here but they are more vocal, I'd like to say militant but they aren't quite in that category. As we've seen up here a well orchestrated advertising campaign can have an effect on the outcome of elections. I would think a lot of union money would go...
There is no way out of the American crisis that does not include a tax increase. You have to increase revenues in order to pay the debt the Americans have accumulated. Get rid of the exemptions and add a small across the board personal income tax increase would help them greatly. All but...
Thanks for clarifying my point. We are pretty good at getting the oil out the ground out here but Ontario and Quebec have the manufacturing base to produce the equipment we need to accomplish that. The money made from oil benefits all of Canada.
The other mechanism is called transfer...
In reference to above, if oil prices hover around the $90-95 range the oil industry could swallow a small royalty increase, but a lot of the oil produced in Alberta is from the oil sands. Due to the expensive recovery methods (SAGD more than open pit nowadays) it costs about $75/barrel to...
Both Capt Greene and his wife are remarkable individuals and an inspiration to not only CF members but the entire nation. He displays exceptional character and determination. People like them make be proud to be Canadian. :salute:
I wish them both well in his continuing recovery. I have...
Redeye, I have been involved in the oil industry in Alberta for around 20 yrs. For most of that time I have worked on or supervised the service rigs that keep the wells pumping. I can honestly tell you that the image that the green peacers etc portray us in is almost complete BS. We have zero...
She has absolutely got my vote in the next provincial election. I like the Wild Rose policies, and she is a great public speaker.
I don't think she will manage to boot the conservatives out of government here but she is going to take some seats away, especially in southern Alberta. The...
Excellent news! BZ to the SF Team that got him. I sense a very large worldwide celebration on the horizon. You have to wonder though with the Pakistani Intelligence and a brigade HQ in the vicinity, why they didn't pot him sooner. HMMMMMMMMMMM. The Pakistani intelligence service or Army...
As more people out west read exactly what is in the lieberals platform they are starting to get angrier. A new NEP thinly disguised as carbon trade designed to steal 30 Billion from Western Canada's coffers over 5 years. >:(
I think if I was Iggy I'd have steered clear of trying something...
I suppose it comes down to the manor in which the union suggests that the business owner should change his views or be seen as an opponent. There is no neutral ground, you are with us or against us. Smells too much like brown shirt tactics to me. It just gets my hackles up right away. I...
Perhaps extortion would be a better word than thuggery. Redeye I am not sure how you could possibly support what is a borderline criminal act. The unions are losing their power and are peeved and threatened so they are lashing out in this way to look for support? Not a rational act. And if...
The worst I had seen was also the 109 next to me. They had set the time setting incorrectly on a Time fuse when trying to set it for PD. It too exploded a couple of hundred meters out.
And that is precisely the point in the CATO revision I read. Cadet medals are not in the Canadian Honours System, nor are medals from the Legion and similar organizations. That is why Legion and now cadet medals are to be worn on the opposite breast.
It makes sense to me. I may not entirely...
