There are three advantages to trailer mounted systems. One - if the vehicle goes down, another vehicle can be used to move the launcher and thus keep the system in action. (same goes for wheeled howitzers vs truck mounted ones a la Caesar). Two - the tow vehicle can carry a lot more extra ammo...
