"The stuff the army issues is useless" and "no non-issue kit over seas!"

I agree that the issue vest is crap.  Graet for storing notebooks and palm pilots and other uber-geek stuff.  Earlier this year I ran into a dude from clothe the soldier that was involved in the ruc.  Back in 1999 they said we were goiung to get a new one, and now, ten years later almost, we...

    Forces struggling to recruit...

Personally, I don't really get the minority and gender quotas in CF recruiting.  If a bunch of women or minority groupos dont want to be soldiers, then they won't be.  If only 1% of white males wanted to be soldiers, then thats all we would get.  Quotas are just a tool of political correctness...

"The stuff the army issues is useless" and "no non-issue kit over seas!"

Whats disturbing about this possible comment about non issue kit, and yes I know every roto says it, is the fact that even after two years in Kandahar, people refuse to listen to the comments made by previous tours that state quite simply-theis piece of kit is crap!  From the TAC VEST to the...

    Ref the Eryx

Eryx is a strange system, to say the least.  Yeah, it may knock a hole in a grape drying hut, or other jundie building, but does it kill the occupants?  I have seen a JDAM dropped on the center of a grape hut, and then the dudes start shooting from there again.  My concern would be space in the...

    Fifteen Days

I just finished the book 'Fifteen Days', by Christie Blatchford.  Without making it sound like free advertising, I would prompt all to have a read of it.  It covers TF ORION and the Sept 3rd fight at the white school.  Very blunt in its presentation, it offers a good insight for family members...

    'Taliban surrounded' outside Kandahar

I would disagree with Piper with regards to the Taliban fighting capabilities.  Yes, they are not the best fighters in the world, but they are by no means the worst.  They have won battles, Aug 3rd and Sept 3rd 2006 as example.  And with regards to their apparently huge losses, I call BS.  No...

Send an Anti-War Zucchini-Gram to CAN Def Min?

Why does it seem that they are blaming the drought on us?  Is this all they got?

The General Hillier Years. The Merged Superthread

Six month blockade...of what?  A landlocked country?  Please. And this guy gets paid mre than most of us.  The Air Force  supplies a couple of aircrews and says they are at war!!!  The navy does a blockade!!  A bunch of Taliban rowing in the ocean or something?  The field army is at war, the...

The General Hillier Years. The Merged Superthread

The field army is at war, like it or not.  The Navy is not, and neither is the air force.  Therefore, in my opinion, a general from the feild army should be leading the forces.  If the navy were at war, then likewise.  And if all three branches are at war, the again, it should be a field army...

    Soldiers kicked out of military

48th,  he was not a great troop, neither was he a bag of $@&%.  And when we got to theater it was a bombshell on everyone, even his best buddies in the platoon were surprised. Now, he didn't implode, he just decide he didn't want to be there.  He still was for three months, even went on HLTA.

    Soldiers kicked out of military

48th, I have no idea of the clause.  It's what the guy said and next thing we know, albeit 3 months later, he's going home.  If he was in fact given a special 'reprieve', it was not my decesion.  But when a guy decides he doesn't want to be there before even unpacking his kit, it is kind of...

    Soldiers kicked out of military

Earlier I mentioned the guy who quit after work up and before deploy, ment.  I got another one.  We had another guy in the platoon who was a reservist who decided, the day after we got to Afghanistan, that he didn't want to be there anymore, for whatever reason.  And apparently, as a reservist...

    Soldiers kicked out of military

We had a guy in my sect who did all the work up training for 1-06, then decided that the war was wrong and didn't want to go.  He went before the CO who gave him some time to reconsider.  Two weeks later he went before the CO again and stated that he still thought the war was wrong, and wanted...

Keeping wounded in CF - merged super-thread

There is alot of talk in this thread about the ways or lack of ways to retain wounded soldiers from Afghanistan.  Pretty much it has all been about physical injuries, ie, loss of limbs, etc.  What about mental injuries?  There are plenty of those within the CF that can't deploy, go on exercise...

Highway of Heroes Highway Signs Stolen!

I agree with Flawed Design.  If you really believe that a single road sign holds all the honour and dignity of the dead soldiers, then go ahead.  Many will disagree. Most people remember the soldiers, not the roadsign, Eddy.     So a roadsign or two has gone missing, not like it's never happened...

Top Marine suggests Marines be the prime force in Afghanistan

Good idea me thinks.  Political or not, and it probably is'nt if you take the time to think about it, the Marines have historically been better suited to small unit combat against bigger and more established forces in a small area.  ISAF is turning into a bunch of pussies, so maybe the Marines...

Keeping wounded in CF - merged super-thread

I am all for keeping wounded soldiers employes in DND.  If they have the drive and motivation to serve, then we as an army deserve them.  There are plenty of desk jobs that they would excel at.  Now, prying the present holders of those desks from their current job is another matter.  But it can...
