China's Moon Rover exhibit mistakenly depicts NUKE MUSHROOM CLOUD over Europe

I'm reading all this and then looking around the university engineering research labs I work at. A good 20% are from Iran, 20% from India, and another 45% are from China.  The 15% are North Americans and other nations. As a population we are weak at the very foundations of technological...

    The education bubble

I'm the first to admit I'm lost without spellcheck. I'm also forever ruined in trying to spell any word with 'ie' vs. 'ei' through my German language classes.  I'm definitely going to be the math and physics teacher. ;)

China's Moon Rover exhibit mistakenly depicts NUKE MUSHROOM CLOUD over Europe

Ha! Too little too late. Show me something that hasn't been made in China, or doesn't have at least a component of it made in China. A handful of stuff. Anyone else notice that the quality of these items are getting less and less each year too? Anyone know how to manufacture this crap anymore...

    The education bubble

Curious to know if you have considered home schooling or correspondence courses? IMHO private schools are nice, but a colossal waste of money that would be better spent elsewhere on the development of a kid. Public high schools can be a total nightmare depending the economic demographic in the...

4 Therapists Quit Edmonton OSI Clinic

Therapists can register with Veteran Affairs as a Service provider for OSI, and ex-soldiers can still go to them if approved. I'm not sure who flips the bill for those who are still serving.

"Send Up The Count" [Please read and send out the word]

That is a good development to hear.

"Send Up The Count" [Please read and send out the word]

I'm not sure if this has been posted before. I can honestly say I have met few soldiers so dedicated and driven to do well at his job.  Knowing him, taking him out of the military must have been like ripping his face off and telling him to 'carry on'...

Japanese warships disrupt Chinese military exercise- Nov. 2013

Michael McNeil, William Elliott, Travis Halmrast, R.I.P. (27/28 Nov 2013)

I served with McNeil overseas in Afghanistan for a short while. He trained me up driving the LAV III after I got tossed in one with little to no training. Stuck up for me when the going got stupid. Hard to imagine this happening with someone so level headed.  RIP.

Got it. Got to have something to compare results to otherwise your confidence level is going to be low.

    Sextant

Pretty darn good.  -- 'DR' meaning Down Range? I've got one coming in the mail...I got my hands on a sailboat, so there is a bit more motivation to learn now. I did something similar to this before years ago in an astronomy course. Prof. gave us a year long project where we had to put a stick...

    Sextant

I'm probably splitting hairs here, but I was reading that brass sextants are considered to be the 'best'. Plastic ones are feared to become inaccurate over time because of temperature changes. (I can't verify how true that really is) Aluminum sextants are good, but since the metal is soft they...

    Sextant

Don't know what is a good book, but there are tons of good youtube videos showing how. Additionally, sailing books will cover how to use them. There are also a few old sextants around that are for airplanes. The concept is the same, but different optics so pilots could use it. The days before...

    Sextant

Thanks for the replies. Best info I can come up with myself: Americans used to issue a Mark II sextant in the WWII era onwards.  There is a version of a Mark III sextant, which *might* be still used today. Reading comments on some sailing forums, pleasure sailors will often try to get their...

Injured Vet pushing for overhaul on VAC

Isn't the purpose of the UoS to meet NATO requirements to have X many deployable troops?

    Sextant

Hello, I tried searching for this, but nothing with a clear answer: 1) What make/model of sextant is used by the CF Navy currently? (I assume there is access to one should GPS drop or various emergencies) 2) What make/model of sextant was used in WWII by the CF Navy? Thanks.

Japanese warships disrupt Chinese military exercise- Nov. 2013

It is mentioned on the story itself....but hard for me to see the link between that and the territorial claims.

Service Dogs (PTSD, VAC activity, etc.)

I could really use a 'Procrastination' service dog. Everytime I go on facebook or army.ca, if I could have a dog jump up and bite me in the face I'd get a heck of a lot more done. (Not making light of how serious OSI conditions are here)

Service Dogs (PTSD, VAC activity, etc.)

Nice video from FOX news I ran across on this topic. Interesting part is where they show the veteran slip into what looks something like a 'thousand yard stare' and the dog jumping up and getting his attention back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6WfDX8KPFU
