Vern, I think you should quote the original posters message and your response, including the signature, and then send it into Men's Health magazine or something like that.

So it looks like it is basically imilar to the "stand by" flights that I used to take 20 years ago as a university brat....if there's space, you get on the flight, but there might not even be a flight in that 72 hours you're required to wait for if applying in person.

I agree with that. It appears that they are simply reacting, without any foresight.
On the other hand, it's always easy to play armchair diplomatics when we don't have access to what information they have been fed beforehand, and what sources it may have come from.
I don't think it is out of context at all. I'm assuming here, but I bet that they had the attack planned already with the intent to get to Captain Wales.

Yup...no training in life required for anything you'd like to be. It's like the story of a neurosurgeon telling a famous novelist (I think it might have been Margaret Atwood),upon finding out that she was a writer, that he thought he'd like to be a writer...
I glad to see that they are also stopping with a demotion in rank, and a severe reprimand, although there may be many who think it is not enough. When you have a good troop like this, it's always a good idea to do your best to retain them in the forces.
