That is called "answering your own question." Like already stated...own up to it, take your lumps.  The hearing may OR MAY NOT be to see how you react to this.  If you come off as untrustworthy, you very well may get kicked out.

Shouldn't be an issue if you keep in close contact with your unit. Have you talked to anyone at your unit?  Gone in to see anyone?

Seems perfectly reasonable to me.  It's always a Pandora's Box to take someone's personal devices, unless you know for a fact they can be kept secure.  Otherwise, you open yourself up to all sorts of issues.
