I was in the same dilemma a couple months ago. I wasn't happy in college; it wasn't necessarily the school work either. I could have stayed in college to please my folks but I knew that would be the wrong decision. I withdrew from my program and put in a component transfer to go reg force.

I for one respect smashmyps3. In a society as materialistic as ours these people make a vivid point. You can say they wasted their money but it's just money that would have probably been wasted on something else.

I looked at just about all the naval recruiting videos and after talking to reg force nav comms I decided thats the trade for me. I put my ct in 2 weeks ago and my interview is next week.

Krieger, the runs are not that bad. They start at about 3km and move upto 6km. Run a few times a week for practice but don't overdue it; any injury before bmq is not a pretty thing.

I'm glad I didn't waste money on matching towels because I got them issued for FREE ;D Still use em to.

Anyone looking for cheap straight razors should check this link out. For $5 you're obviously getting what you paid for but for a newbie to straight razors it's an excellent buy before spending a $100 or more on a decent one. It's mainly a knife website but they carry a few low priced razors...

Absolutely. At basic you will be in a totaly new environment with many restrictions placed on you. You will have to adapt to this change, the quicker the better. The new bmq courses are 13 weeks long so keep that in mind.

Oh they have a sense of humor alright ;D They'll say stupid childish jokes to you and if you laugh at them...pushups. They'll do silly things during inspections; use your beret as a swiffer, hang clothes off your shirt collar, if they find junk on your floor they'll gently place it ontop your...

The lighter was on me at the time; I didn't care too much about that. It was the almost new can of polish that made me angry (it was in my carry on bag). A guy from my platoon who was with me at the security counter got his zippo confiscated, now that must have been a downer because it cost like...

I'v been in this city for almost 20 years; it has it's goods and it's bads. For those from Michigan a night out in Windsor will cost you alot less than Toronto (hotels, restuarants & bars). In Past couple years I'v come to the realization that I have no future in this automotive blue collar city.

Free underwear is nice, I won't argue with that. However, I'm more pissed off over the fact that I didn't receive a 2nd set of parade boots on basic. There were guys who had 2 pairs issued to them at basic and I got none >:(  I ended up having to use my points to get a 2nd pair.

Ah yes the bmq vid from St.Jean. I watched it several times before basic.

I received a sheet that displayed all the trades I qualified for based on my CFAT score, I didn't display my actual mark however

Well you convinced me to write a letter to NRTD Borden..."Where's my free underwear!!!" ;D I bought some boxer briefs before arriving at basic; nice and easy to fold 4x4.

I had several things confiscated at the airport; starch, deodorant, shoe polish, lighter. The lighter I understand; but the rest...not so much. If you're missing a few small things it's not a big deal. As for laudry detergent; you will have 3 other room mates and will be doing laudry together...

Boehm, this was reserve bmq; we weren't issued any underwear. :)
