How Marines Feel About Their Gear

It's been posted here back in 2005, along with debunking: http://forums.army.ca/forums/threads/36600.0.html Also, how did someone at military.com not spot the M243/249 SAW typo?

4 Dutch soldiers Injured in Uruzgan

I thought it seemed suspicious that none of the major news services had picked it up.  It would have been big news for Europe at the very least. Hope the wounded have a speedy recovery.

Has this been verified? It doesn't seem to have come up in other news sources, and I notice that

    Wikileaks - forum for whistleblowing

    Saddam's brother hanged

Looks like they still managed it:  http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2007/01/14/execution-hanging.html Hanging isn't an exactly new form of execution, and the body mass/rope length needed to avoid strangulation (drop too short)/decapitation (drop too long) should be well established, but they...

    The Curse of Cultural Awareness

I might note that the Lunar New Year is by no means exclusive to the Chinese, and that Easter is celebrated by Christians regardless of cultural background, hence you could do both.  Or you might be Eastern Orthodox and celebrate the same Christian holidays but at different days owing to the...

    The Curse of Cultural Awareness

Don't assume.  :P Due to local dialects and moving around, only a small branch of the family uses Mandarin as a first language, and I'm not one of them. As for traditions - well... new ones come and old ones go.  Culture isn't static. I'm not sure which definition of multiculturalism but...

    The Curse of Cultural Awareness

Because well... cultures change; I hope Canadian culture takes the best practices of whatever various immigrant groups arive, but some traditions deserve to die quiet unlamented deaths.  Blood feuds Honour Codes, foot binding, the caste system...  I can think of plenty of cultural artifacts that...

Who sells Replica Flintlocks in Vancouver?

I figured this belonged in off-topic more than buy/sell/trade because it's strictly non-army related. Anyway, one of my friends is a big fan of the Age of Sail Royal Navy, and we were looking to get him a replica flintlock pistol for his birthday. I've seen many in tourist shops in Vienna, but...

    The Start of Chinese Imperialism?

The writer of The Economist's Charlemagne column is arguing that Spain is already catching up to Italy, and already matches Canada in terms of GDP (I checked - it was within a few billion USD as of 2005) http://www.economist.com/world/europe/displaystory.cfm?story_id=8103771

Um, right to a point...  You've got stats from an RPG site, there bud.  The Jaguar was likely terminated after Tiannamen in 1989, but China didn't fight the russians in the early 90's, nor did they produce a couple hundred Jags, nor was there a November Nuclear Exchange.  :P
