US Navy cutting basic to 9 weeks from 10.

Except the "big" picture is all Army. I didn’t get much from BOTC (predecessor of BMOQ). I could have not done it and do fine. In fact, I know someone that has never done BMOQ/BOTC as they were CEOTP, and someone mistakenly put the course as completed on their file before they had done it...

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

The ADMs are part of the DND side (and yes, some report to both the CDS and the DM - unity of command anyone?). There shouldn’t be, but there are competing interest between DND and the CAF. The option space for Commanders to accept a risk to mission or a risk to personnel is extremely limited...

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

That is a Command responsibility, not a Public Service one. DND should be there to support Commanders to enable readiness. I find DND holds way too much power that should be held at the Command level (often indirectly).

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

The CAS may be and ADM equivalent but it is not an ADM. The fact that some in our organization think the "ADM" functions are more important than the Comd RCAF functions is sign that our "raison d’être" is not fully understood and acknowledged. We don’t exist to manage ourselves. We exist to...

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

I still use that line for people that have unreasonable demands in order to stay in. When we cater for one, it has a demoralizing effect for others. In your case, I am genuinely interested in what keeps you in if you’re so sour towards the organization.

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

Retention is not only a CAF problem, but a problem for many companies. People like to explore more nowadays. I would argue the lack of purpose has a greater effect on retention than money. Money is a bandaid that has proven not to work over time if underlying issues aren’t addressed. The CAF...

    FWSAR (CC130H, Buffalo, C27J, V22): Status & Possibilities

To be fair, there were a lot of airworthiness, safety and requirements issues, even not too long ago. Having been involved with FWSAR since 2019, the project wasn’t well managed, at least initially.

Joining as a pilot at 27

Even having a Canadian citizenship, if you hold a second citizenship, it could be an obstacle in flying the F-35 because of the security clearances required.

Public service employment has grown by 31 per cent

I am convinced other companies would pick up the demand.

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

Not sure where you get your info but this isn’t accurate.

CAF Security Forces [Split from RCN Anti Drone Weapon]

Sure. The MPs response is always that they’ll prioritize a policing call over a base security call. Not quite acceptable from a force protection point of view. The current system is jacked and unless MPs re-prioritize force protection over issuing tickets, the current Force Protection concept...

CAF Security Forces [Split from RCN Anti Drone Weapon]

They’re too busy doing « policing » or patrols, and the MP branch has very little will to do anything related to base security. Also, all elements of Wing Security Forces need to report to the Wing CoC, who is responsible to field an operational force, not some other command with little stake...

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

But once the requirements were set, the project didn’t hold the company to the requirements and accepted many deviations to accept aircraft. It felt like the project worked more for Airbus than the CAF.

I have not and I have full authority on visits in a hangar where we store sensitive equipment. I don’t have to ask permission to deny them entry (or anyone else).
