CF Members and time alloted for PT

In what other aspect of our jobs would merely shooting for the minimum pass be acceptable? If you teach a course where the pass rate is 50% and everyone taking the course gets 50%, this is not a success. Or, to more accurately fit the topic at hand, if you teach a course where the pass rate is...

Granted, but the other crews can. If you're flying 1 - 2 times a week, I don't see a problem with only getting those 3-4 hours elsewhere in the week. If you're flying 4 times a week, and can only get a workout in once a week, then that's a problem. But it is definitely a problem when people...

And it is also important to note that it is the responsibility of a commanding officer to ensure that personnel are provided opportunity to work out. It is not soley the member's responsibility, it is a shared responsibility between the person and his or her chain of command. That "when this...

Here is an example outlined in HMCS Vancouver's Captain's Standing Orders: Not quite as generous as the example listed above, but hey, it still helps.

    Ask The CSE Chief

Yes it is happening. As of Sept, there will be no such thing as an NET or an NWT. Anyone who isn't already QL5 (qualification level) qualified by that point will become one of the "generic" techs, to be selected for further trades training and specialization down the line. Everyone else should...

Describing my job as a MARS Officer.

I currently deal with navigating the ship and making sure that we don't hit anything else out there. In the long term I'll deal more with ensuring that we can fight off whatever threatens us.

    Ordered to burn accumulated leave.

Agreed wholeheartedly. I'm unsure whether or not an order to use up accumulated leave prior to being granted special would be considered a legal order or not, but I sure as hell know I would not issue such an order were I given a choice in the matter.

I wouldn't argue that you're far off the mark, at least not while posted to a ship, or a unit directly supporting ships (such as the flee maintenance facilities or the coast's J37s [engineering operations] organizations). In those roles, you're very much so involved in making sure that the work...

This is even more fun when your cabin-mate is the baby Engineering Officer by the way. :)

If you couldn't be a XXXXX

Marine Systems Engineering Officer I guess, but that might be cheating, as that's the trade I actually enrolled under. If I can't pick that... eh, AerE? NCM? Fire Control Tech.

For the Bridge Watch Keepers (BWKs), it really just depends upon how many qualified BWKs you have aboard. I have heard of 1 in 3, however something like 1 in 5 is more common. Often times on actual deployments, the limiting factor is bunking. If you don't need more than 3 BWKs, you might only...

Cut PRes funding to support the Reg F (Split from: Base closures?)

I would like to point out that our reserve units are also liable to deploy as a unit, IAW section 31 of the NDA, when said unit is placed upon active service by the Governor in Council. It's just not likely to happen unless we enter into another total war.

__Another kid hoping for some advice__

I'm going to be a bit frank here. Most of what the other two have said is valid. However, I think a bit more needs to be said. PMedMoe suggested you work on your punctuation etc. I would also suggest you work on your apparent sense of entitlement. We don't owe you a job in whichever career you...

Well, it's not only a matter of whether or not you know how to handle tools in general. It's also whether or not you know how to use them on the kit in question. And more to the point, it's also not your job. Even former techs who joined the dark side generally aren't "allowed" to work hands on.

Not really. That's usually around the max you can expect to stay in any one job from what I've seen. Sometimes you'll have a quicker turn-over, and sometimes it'll be longer. There's definitely outliers, I know one former CELE guy who stayed in the same job for about 9 years (He only managed...

Well, the Canadian Space Agency is an option, as evidenced by Col Chris Hadfield. As for other, non-Astronaut positions at the space agency that might be filled with Military personnel, I don't know how many there are, if any. Even at any of the DRDCs, you'll find military positions few and far...

1a: It's possible but I wouldn't count on it. 1b: I would very much so not recommend joining under one trade intending to do an Occupation Transfer to another trade. If you do so successfully, you'll have wasted years of your life and a whole load of taxpayer money. And generally speaking, it's...

To an extent, true. However, an Engineering Officer's tools are the members of his or her department. But yeah, definitely not trusted with a multimeter.
