All Things First Nations - CF help, protests, solutions, residential schools, etc. (merged)

No matter how much we may look alike, there is always somebody who wants to exploit the slightest difference to divide people for his or her own gain - be it power, prestige, money, or just a petty feeling of superiority over a "lesser" individual.

That was my point. So am I. It is important to remember and understand history, but history should not hinder our present and our future. Centuries of denominational violence, between people who worship the same God and Messiah, in Northern Ireland, and the violent break-up of Yugoslavia are...

Somebody did paint a statue of him somewhere black not too long ago. But perhaps they thought that it was the more recent Trudeau.

I read/watch things across a reasonably-wide spectrum, generally not bothering with the looney-extreme fringes but occasionally going for a dip just to maintain some awareness of what's lurking out there. I came across that one on Bourque Newswatch. He leans left, but drags up some interesting...

I'm not a huge fan of either David Frum or The Atlantic, but I thought so as well. I'd read something similar in the Kingston paper - also outlining that it was very unlikely that he could have known what was actually happening - a few months ago but could not find it online. This, I think, was...

Sponsoring refugees - and doing a much-better job of it than the federal government. Many sponsoring groups still maintain friendships with the families whom they sponsored and guided years ago. Federally-sponsored refugees were, in many cases, pretty much abandoned to their own devices at the...

    Toqueville and Factions

I read the title of this thread as "Toqueville" before I opened it. I was expecting to see a Dr Seuss-like tale of a magic, rhyming place where no weird-looking beings ever wear gloves as they prance about while delighting in Sergeants-Major's heads colourfully detonating everywhere. Edit: Now...

Snowbirds fly over London, Ont. Tuesday to honour June 6 attack victims

The worst thing for any crew was getting such e-mails when no flyby had been officially requested or tasked, especially when they were well off of the most direct, or other justifiable, route. Wing Commanders do not take kindly to e-mails like those.

Snowbirds fly over London, Ont. Tuesday to honour June 6 attack victims

Where does it stop? ANYBODY can make an application for a flyby or full-blown air display on the Airshow website. These are vetted by the Special Events staff and pushed out to applicable Wings for acceptance or denial. Most got turned down. They're too far away, or nobody/nothing is...

Snowbirds fly over London, Ont. Tuesday to honour June 6 attack victims

A flyby is nothing more than a single formation pass overhead. Nothing fancy, no aerobatics. For the Snowbirds, I'd presume smoke on a short distance prior to and off again shortly after passing overhead. It's extremely cheap to do, and priceless in terms of comfort to those grieving. I'm...

I cannot recall the author's name, but there was a most excellent historical novel entitled, simply, "Aztec" that I read many years ago. I highly recommend it.

Air Force authorizes baseball caps in uniform

There is no place for any soft hat on a flight line unless it's Gorilla-glued or tied on firmly, or otherwise unable to depart the wearer's head.

Air Force authorizes baseball caps in uniform

Can't do it with current ones, or the old CF optional green one (I saw a Major in Lahr wearing one with an RCR cap badge on it for a service flight). The old Air Cadet Cossack Cavalry Blue ones were fully-functional, though, and looked pretty goofy when worn in winter survival mode.

And is warmer in winter and cooler in summer, and mostly made of natural, renewable materials.

Air Force authorizes baseball caps in uniform

Much better than that stupid wedge, which the Army rejected as obsolete many decades ago.

I bought a replica Mayan obsidian sacrificial knife at Chichen Itza in early 2009. If I ever wanted to have my heart slashed out - and I do not - I certainly wouldn't opt for that, were any choice of implement given. It's thick.
