I did that once, and I will never do it again, at least now with more people then myself. I was NOT comfortable at all. The other place that most people don't get to is the very top of the mast, where the SG-180 radar is located. Just hanging at out with your fall arrest gear looking down the...
RFI's are just feeling out the process and seeing what industry can do. If there are things out there that could meet requirements. The French very much may have sumbitted some information to the RFI or had talks with the project staff. Guaranteed, it costs nothing to have that conversation or...
@SeaKingTacco I hope this crest is to your liking. Not a Corsair but...
Personally all the AOPS crests are above average if not down right awesome. This one is pretty cool. Naming them after people is a great idea. Who wouldn't want to sail on a ship that was named for a VC recipient...
There are not "requirements" yet. There will be range, weapons and indiscretion rate requirements, as well as crew complement requirements. But likely there never be a tonnage one. Tonnage is not a capability. Might be size constraints/restraints though.
I think it will spur some to join specific trades. I think that it will help some stay on a little longer for the annual bonus. But a lot of the short trades are short because the civilian equivalent pays more. So likely we'll see them still leave, maybe just a little later in their career...
Did a quick look at the CFHD rates. I looked at the most expensive places to live (like Vancouver). Quick review was that it wasn't until band 3 where the pay increase was large enough to change your band (it goes to 6). The difference in pay (before taxes) is higher than the loss of CFHD...
So I did the math for myself. Including the +21 years bonus ($6000) it works out to about an 18.4% pay increase. As I don't get CFHD where I'm at I can't complain.
I can see the cases where people are going to be worse for some, losing your SDA when posted to a position that doesn't go to sea...
There were at least three contracts awarded this week for UAS for the RCN/sales to Europe, Quantum computing and some other things I can't remember. Global news had a report that the RCAF is recommending going forward with the full F35 purchase.
Dunno what it could be.
Wargaming is having its ‘Moneyball’ moment Wargaming is having its ‘Moneyball’ moment
Though this would be interesting for people. As a wargaming hobbyist (hobbyer) and one who has worked with simulations professionally I found it fascinating.
Sure, and a BV series will work amazing in a lot of places that are not the high arctic. That's more a testament to a well designed vechicle than anything else. But my point is that the high arctic eats a lot of equipment for breakfast that "works other places". Due dilligence isn't the worst...
So much goes into ships speed, particularly a newly clean hull. Did 17 knots in HMCS Brandon once, when she just came out of drydock and had a fresh coat of paint. Astern wind helped... lol
Nunavut is actually the "high arctic desert" with tundra and sea ice. Northern Norway still has trees. Lots of tall coniferous trees. Its more akin to operating in Northern Ontario or Quebec than the arctic.
Our north of 60 is a far more difficult place to operate than the European north of...
I think of it like a aircraft situation. If you find a significant problem with one or two, you halt flights and check them all out. That's pretty much what happened.
