Yes
You're hitting around the mark. Those ships don't have core crews and are used for training. Training officers are usually fairly Jr. and may or may not have the experience or expertise to recognize the issues.
The issues were not with the float/move systems, they were with the safe...
Orcas had a significant corrective maintenance (wouldn't call it a midlife) around 2021, when Topshee was Commander Maritime Forces Pacific. There were significant deficiencies from an inspection found with various systems, most of them safety related. Topshee grounded the entire fleet until...
Sounds like a gap in the market. Quick get Magellan Aerospace on the phone!
I wonder if tube launched will take away manufacturing from other tomahawk variants that the US deems more important.
WTF?
SK is offering so much because it make geopolitical sense to do so. And if they wanted to infiltrate NATO through "military sales*", they've already done it with Poland buying basically everything on the menu.
*completely ridiculous, F-35 kill switch levels of ridiculous
As far as SK...
Naval Today is not what I would call a quality site. They don't do any of their own research and just repost other peoples stuff without any checking. I find that they are great in getting the word out, but require some other looking around to find the original articles or information they...
Two for sure. The Ammunition jetties in Halifax harbour and Rocky Point near Esquimalt. Both are there mainly to ammunition RCN ships, but you can also ship ammo directly to them as necessary (in relatively small quantities at a time, BC one in particular doesn't have a deep enough quay to...
Ships are normally classified on what they do in NATO... however as one can see the definitions are vague
What is a "CRUISER TYPE" anyways. And how is that different than a "Destroyer Type"? And why does a frigate have both a higher and lower length than a destroyer?
I prefer the new...
What a hack job article. The Parent American company that will likely get the contract is L3 Harris. L3 Wescam in Burlington Canada will be making the tubes in Canada (world leader in optic technology). So we get better tubes from a Canadian subsidiary in Canada or get a European company that...
In its defence... Infantry want simple not exquisite. Seems kinda half way between the "regular mortar in a box that causes TBI" and "super expensive exquisite turret system".
I think the loading mechanism is clever honestly. It's very simple and not breach which is an advantage.
But yah, I...
What do folks think of the RUAG Cobra concept for 120mm.
Designed for the Piranah and fairly simple tech. Shoot and scoot with overhead cover when needed.
And the launch point of the mortar is relatively far from the troops loading reducing TBI risk.

An excellent article going over the history of corvettes. In particular I like the portion where they modernize the definition. Which I think works well with the NATO classifications.
So the mobilized reserve is actually being called the Augmented Reserve.

For the links and rumours from last week. Here's a great substack on all things CAF.
Those are twice the tonnage that the RCN is looking at and about 15m longer as well. So not quite a comparable but certainly something to look at for engineering ideas.
I've seen it happen three times. PRes MP's can only police the force, so they don't do a lot outside of exercises. And if there is a problem you are having trouble with they are very happy to help out. Things like a) go to peoples houses to get all the kit they didn't return b) go to peoples...
He posted the image of the Benito Juarez as he was sailing in company with it when he made the comment. It was all very light and fluffy. Just complementing the ship.
Yes, they use MICA IIRC. Which is a horrible option. Likely a Canadianized version would have Mk56 launchers instead for ESSM. Would prefer Mk41 but space, weight, cost might be prohibitive. The RAM would be replaced with something else (or nothing at all).
If this ship is going to stand on...
