What is training at the Depot like from day to day?

All fine and dandy, once you are in, you'll realize transfers to other specialties is not as easy as you may think. My troopmate left the force before we were done RFT and joined York Regional Police.  Within 3 years, he was a dogmaster, I have never heard of this in the RCMP. Crown Loyal...

What is training at the Depot like from day to day?

I joined the Force in 2001 after spending 16 years in the infantry.  I was very disappointed in the training.  It is VERY light on the physical fitness and HEAVY on the touchy feeling stuff. The Force has lots of room for specialization, ie. ident, PDS etc, but general duty policing is not up...

    RCMP Info, discussion

I am all for the yellow strip on our bananna pants and breeches, I just think they are way too reflective (and I'm a traffic cop)

    RCMP Info, discussion

It could have been CN or CP Police, both their logos spotlight the "Police" and not the service name. Noneck, I got to agree with you, the new ptl jacket is great.  Like Blackhorse, I wear my Danners, summer and winter.(unlike you, we have winter!)  I liked the cargo pants, the ones I had I...

    Italian Campaign

Anything by Mark ZUELKE.  He has written, Gothic Line, Ortona and Liri Valley.  These are all about Cdn soldiers in Italy and Sicily.  I bought my copies at Chapters. Very good reading.  Hope this helps. Jay

    Canadian Special Operations Regiment (CSOR)

ARMY RICK, I gotta agree with you.  It is more important the job they are going to do.  I just wondered where the tan beret thing came from, there are alot of "wannabees" out there. By the way, just managed to see the army news cast mentioned on page 13.  Col BARR is a good man, almost as good...

Tan berets and other CANSOFCOM, JTF, and CSOR fashions [1st split: CSOR]

Thanks for the info about the berets.  The video wouldn't come through for me.  i thought someone was reading too many SAS books.

Tan berets and other CANSOFCOM, JTF, and CSOR fashions [1st split: CSOR]

I ask again, where did you all get the idea the CSOR was going to wear tan berets? For "Short Final", there really is no "standard" anything for Commonwealth militaries.  22 SAS does wear a tan beret, which was copied by the SASR in Aus.  This hardly makes it standard.

Tan berets and other CANSOFCOM, JTF, and CSOR fashions [1st split: CSOR]

I guess we will have to wait and see what actually happens with this new unit.  Opinions are like a-holes, everyone has one. Good luck to all who make it. Who came up with these idea that the CSOR will be wearing tan berets?

    Lancaster in Resolute

Salty, Sounds like a worthwhile project.  I would imagine the Air Force would be a good bet.  As there are very few Lancs left, they would probably get involved with photos and maybe even recovery.  The Bomber Command museum in nanton, Alberta may also be a good bet.  They have a Lanc as a...

    Medal for Domestic Operation?

As silly as this whole thing is, remember, the CPSM started as a private members bill. Good thing we don't have to pay to have our medals court mounted.

    ORTONA by Mark Zuehlke

Outstanding book, got it for Christmas.  Well actually my wife bought me "Shake hands with the Devil" and there was no way I would support that waste of skin so I traded it in for Ortona. Has lots of first hand accounts from both sides.  Has anyone read any of his other books?

    2nd and 3rd

When I joined in 1985, I told them all I wanted was 031.  They tried to get me to put list others, but I refused.  Three weeks later, I was in Basic Training.  Good luck.

    The Great Gun Control Debate

Yes, it sure has worked. I spent 16 yrs in the army, have been with the RCMP for the last 3yrs and I got turned down for an FAC last year. Never had a domestic disturbance, no criminal record. I have carried a FNC1, C2, C7, C5, C6 and now a S&W pistol (and, ours are prohib weapons due to...

Reserves and the RCMP (and Other Civilian Police)

As it was explained to me, we are not able to join so that in case of national emergency, the govt can call upon the reserves and RCMP and not worry about any crossover. Still curious about the guy in Vancouver, but rumours are rumours.
