Does a DEO help you progress faster ?

Really depends on the SCRIT. I'm not navy. So not familiar. How do those quals score out on the SCRIT? Are any of them hard requirements for promotion? Most trades will have an EPZ after 4 years. But yes, realistically most trades will obviously take a lot longer than that. Fastest I've...

Does a DEO help you progress faster ?

Straight line comparisons are difficult. The time as ROTP is to get a degree and some training done. So the real comparison is commissioned time which starts for DEOs after Basic and for ROTP at graduation. At the point of commissioning, the ROTP candidate likely has an advantage because they...

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

It covers more than operational needs. But how effective we'll be at turning cash into capability remains to be seen. Especially given both the politics of procurement and the politics of basing (which itself drives up costs and secondary effects like recruitment and retention).

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

The biggest value for a Mobilization Reserve, from my perspective: 1) Ex-Reg F who simply wants to keep touch with the military community and still serve in some capacity. But can't (no trade availability) or doesn't want to do PRes things. What exactly is an AESOP going to do for example...

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

This is exactly why you create a tiger team and get them to build a plan. Kinda hard to start building before there's a plan. And I'm sure the plans and numbers will evolve in time.

Not quite the same thing. The mobilization reserve, as far as I've heard, is basically just Basic Training and then you do 1 week per year, which I presume will be normal requals (Force Test, First Aid, Rifle, pistol, Gas hut, Fire extinguisher, and maybe some DLN stuff). I assume there will...

What is it called when you know somebody posted to said team?

New rumint. They are standing up a tiger team to grow the PRes to 100k and a new mobilization reserve that will be several times the size of the PRes.

    Need? No. Want? Yes.

Which can't be done anymore. Without insane costs. Global Fleet Concept is now common and applies to most aircraft purchased over the last two decades.

Maybe. But there's no real way to practically design against a terrorism threat like that. Especially for the CAF. That's a threat that is going to be increasingly dealt with as a law enforcement and counter terrorism threat. Eh install jammers in sensitive locations.

We have no enemies that are planning to launch missiles randomly in Manitoba.

Canada to Spend $5.0Bil on AEW Aircraft

The big advantage of the L3 offering is wider sensor coverage. 360 I believe. GlobalEye is not. And the CAEW is also AAR capable, which GlobalEye doesn't currently offer. CAEW has political risk and be slight technical risk since it has never been integrated on a Global. Only Gulfstreams...

Canada to Spend $5.0Bil on AEW Aircraft

What's the problem you're trying to solve here. Being able to get better missile targeting in Toronto is kinda pointless when you don't have missiles in Toronto. And we never will.

Canada to Spend $5.0Bil on AEW Aircraft

Because nobody really wants those locations, so the pain has to be redistributed somehow. Also, because we locate bases not based on military or economic efficiency, but for political reasons and dumbass ideas like people thinking we have to fighters in Whitehorse to defend the Arctic.

Chinooks can be bought single. At a high price. But as you say, there's now full reviews for all the helicopter fleets, aiming for a more unified strategy. Better to be wait and make decisions on what to buy, more holistically. This is like climate change policies. Everybody likes the...

PSPC gets a lot of unfair hate. I've never come across a procurement officer who didn't want to help. Their hands are tied by law though. ISED is worse because their actual mandate often runs contrary to DND interests.

There will also have to be new authorities to go with this. And there's mention in the media of joining the Defence Investment Bank the Brits are leading. Given Carney's history...
