The disability award "top up".....not until 2017?

Is there a source for this? That seems absurd, and reads like it came from one of those goofy anti Liberal memes you see on FB. The point of a "minimum threshold" is that if you come in UNDER the threshold, they bump you up, but if you are OVER it, there's no change. That's been the definition...

The disability award "top up".....not until 2017?

As I understand it, the previous minimum threshold was a Cpl 2 (I believe). So even if you never got Cpl 2, your ELB is still based on Cpl 2 salary. The new min threshold is Pte 3. So if you were a Pte when released, your old ELB was based on Cpl 2 pay. Now it'll be based on Pte 3. Anybody over...

The disability award "top up".....not until 2017?

No. Everyone gets the same COLA increases given to serving soldiers. I got out a a Cpl 3 in 2008, and my ELB today is calculated using Cpl 3 salary today. When they say "70% of your retirement salary" they don't mean the dollar amount of when you got out. They mean your retirement rank.

Class Action Suit against NVC & "Govt has no obligation to soldiers"

It sounds like these DOJ lawyers are not in sync with the federal government. The Equitas lawyers said "these DOJ lawyers are making liars out of the Liberal government". That implies that the Equitas guys at least think that the DOJ is acting someone independently. If they thought it was...

Earning Loss Benefit ( ELB )

It appears to come into effect Oct 1 and yes, I'm sure it will be done for everyone automatically. You'll just get more on your end Oct pay

Class Action Suit against NVC & "Govt has no obligation to soldiers"

Occam, yeah, I've been reading it through it and running some numbers. It looks like COLA won't be included. I'll give you an example using my own situation, along with the COLA tables that VAC uses: 2007 -2.2917% 2008 -2% 2009 -2.5% 2010 -3.25949% 2011 -3.346776% 2012 -2.8% 2013 -1.8% 2014...

Class Action Suit against NVC & "Govt has no obligation to soldiers"

Occam, I hope youre right, but I don't think so.  I've been trying to tease apart the legalese in the bill for a month now, and I can't come up with anything that suggests they'll add COLA in the top up. From the bill (emphasis mine): the word "reduced" means they take the number corresponing...

Class Action Suit against NVC & "Govt has no obligation to soldiers"

I really don't think that's the case. I don't think the top will include COLA increases. The link in the other thread put out by VAC gives an example of someone at 25% getting around $11,000. If COLA  was included, it would be more. My guess is they didn't mention the year because it's...

Class Action Suit against NVC & "Govt has no obligation to soldiers"

No. Harper gets ZERO credit l because the PIA, ELB and the DA are all garbage compared to what they replaced. Once that happened, however, credit is given where shitty programs are made slightl less shitty. Harper didn't make any of those less shitty. His only  improvement was a bullshit...

Class Action Suit against NVC & "Govt has no obligation to soldiers"

No, I mean the improvements to those things which were announced in March. Harper introducing those things via the NVC is nothing to brag about. Frankly, Harper's passing of it is a bug part of the reason why ABC exists. Harper was a PoS

Class Action Suit against NVC & "Govt has no obligation to soldiers"

Missed the budget announcement? I understand many don't trust the government, but I'm not going to believe that they would announce such specific benefits and then take it off the table. The Trudeau goverent has been working in good faith. Like, for f's sake, he's been PM for 6 months. He was...

Class Action Suit against NVC & "Govt has no obligation to soldiers"

Hm. Harper had 10 years to fix this, which he did nothing of the sort. Trudeau has had six months.  And he's STILL done more then Harper did during his ten years. The ABC crowd was absolutely correct, and if it wasn't for them, we wouldn't even be TALKING about a return to pensions. We...

Federal Budget 2016 - Good News for Vets?

This is what I was told by VAC the other day, but reading the actual bill kinda seems like not. It says: " If a member or a veteran who received, in whole or in part, a disability award under section 45, 47 or 48 of the Act before April 1, 2017 dies before that day, the Minister must pay, in...

Federal Budget 2016 - Good News for Vets?

OK so just got off the phone with VAC, they say that all retroactive pay is also indexed to inflation, so, in my situation (260K in 2008, DA @ 100%) I should get something in the range of 100k. By comparison, someone who was awarded the same rating (100%) in 2016, they'll get a cheque for $50k...

Federal Budget 2016 - Good News for Vets?

"For 2016 the 100% max level is $310,378.59 For 2017 Trudeau will bump that to $360,000 That's almost a 14% increase - if my math is still good. So am I correct in thinking that those of us already in receipt of an award with get a bump of around that 14% mark to align it with this new limit in...

Good news all around, although still room to improve. I wonder how long until we see the bump in Earnings Loss and retroactive DA ?
