    RCN Carrier models

That said, a friend visited the Aviation Museum in Ottawa over the weekend and sent some inspirational photos of the model they have on display there. Here's the link to the full album of his visit to the museum! Many thanks! https://www.flickr.com/photos/brangwyn/albums/72177720322290385/

And here's how she looks as of the weekend. Pretty pleased with the look.

    RCN Carrier models

With the green and gray applied, it was time to add some yellow...alas, bleed under the edge of the tape, so...hand touch-ups engaged! I have to touch up the gray still.

    RCN Carrier models

With the deck stripped, I then put light layers of paint on...basically one layer a week with a different brand of paint even. So, slow progress.

    RCN Carrier models

I spray painted the flight deck...and the paint bubbled...so I had to strip it. There was quite the pile of paint chips involved. Someone suggested that oven cleaner does a good job stripping paint. I will observe that it does.

    The War in Ukraine

There was past discussion of a 'winter offensive' in previous years when the ground froze after the fall rainy season in Ukraine. I'm wondering if the UKR forces will do a winter push to try and punch through somewhere before the Presidential handover date? A swath of destruction via...

    Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

The thing about AOPS is that in order to engage an enemy, you need a "sense" and "strike" capability. I question adding some form of Strike capability without a proper SENSE capability. I cannot speak for the equipment on AOPS, I've not been aboard one nor have I seen their OPS gear, but from...

For Soldiers at Fort Carson, Food Is Scarce

I 'adopted' 3x USN sailors for an afternoon a few years back. There were 3 ships in Halifax visiting over the 4th of July, so I went down and asked their Senior Chiefs to have 3 deserving sailors show up and meet me to get 'adopted' for the day. Took them out to the civvy range with some guns...

    Replacing the Subs

Lifebouy Sentry up off the coast of Norway was incredible....northern lights every night...crisp fresh air...beautiful scenery when we went through VestFjorden, it was amazing. In a sub, you're looking at the inside of a smelly tin can, and no way to open the window when buddy beside you...

    Replacing the Subs

Answer there is to park the CPF's, train the crews on subs, and sail a bunch of subs instead of the Frigates.

    Hamas invaded Israel 2023 Megathread

There will be no change in the performance quality of our politicians (of any party) until tarring and feathering is legalized again.

    FELEX - Halifax Class Modernisation

It was deliberately kept separate from the CMS refresh process.

    FELEX - Halifax Class Modernisation

I got a bit of info from the previous LCMM and have heard from some folks that there is goodness involved in the results, but the trials are ongoing. As a former SONAR Tech, I have a strong appreciation for what's being improved, and how.

    Maritime Coastal Defence Vessels (MCDVs)

Jumping back to the topic at hand - the MCDVs. If they are to be retired (which is certain - just a question of when) what will replace them? Looking at the role they've been doing, it's been mostly constabulary, and showing of the flag, usually in pairs to provide redundancy and mutual...

    The War in Ukraine

When the Russians run out of tanks, what will they fight with? Whatever is at hand. (Not that they're running out of tanks...or are they...?)

    Maritime Coastal Defence Vessels (MCDVs)

The thing is, from the public's eye, an MCDV or an AOPS is equivalent to a Frigate. It's gray, it's got a Radar on top, it's got weapons, it's got (some) sailors, and it's got a Canadian Flag on it. From the public's POV, every ship we have which meets that criteria is a warship. The reality...
