Role of Officer vs job of NCM [Merged]

I am going to CFR (from a MCPL), although I am in the Reg force.. so, I don't know if our situations will be exact. I will commission as a 2Lt, and upon completion of phase training, I will be a LT.

    Canadian Military Postal System

I believe the title of the thread was "Canadian MILITARY postal system" so, complaints about a first class letter from montreal do not apply..  I highly doubt a corporal postie is going to deliver your first class mail.. also, mail from windsor getting sorted in toronto.. once again, canada...

    Cornwallis Vs. St Jean

I went through Cornwallis (shudder) in 1991.. the instuctors used to beat us on a regular basis.. and I heard that in St Jean.. there are cleaners who come in at night and get the building ready for inspection while the troops are running around camp in civies.. and heading to montreal for the...

    "Master Corporals" - Merged Thread

There is no easy answer to your question. The short answer would be. It depends on the unit and position you are in. In some units, the MCpl is a strong leadership position, more of a manager than a worker. (so, using your terms.. they would be a junior Sgt) On the other hand, in some units a...

    Canadian Military Postal System

I think it all has to do with the amount of  flights we have.. All our mail gets sent to Belleville, then sits around in Trenton for possibly  a week (maybe even 2 if the plane is filled with other supplies) then goes over seas.. The mail does sometimes get held up in customs on the other side...

    DEU Protocal?

I have been on a few cruises.. and I have seen many military members wear a uniform to the formal dinner.. However, they were in mess kit, and not in DEU with a bow tie.. Most men will be wearing a tux, I think you would be pretty under dressed in DEU.. Mess kit on the other hand, looks quite...

    CF Basic Parachutist - Q&A

Yeah, I guess you could say those PT test standards are low.. but, considering during my PT test at the Canadian Airborne Center (9603) in Edmonton, I watched some candidates get through 4 or 5 chinups, and then the PI (parachute instructor) deciding to start over at 1.. so, you better be dammed...

    VAdm Forcier resigns

PS.. VAdm Forcier joined the forces in 1971.. so, the comments about leaving without a full pension are also false.. after 35 years.. I dont think his pension will be an issue.

    VAdm Forcier resigns

Admiral Forcier announced to us his decision just hours after he submitted his regisnation to the CDS.  One of his grandchildren suffered a trauma recently, and it is his decision to move to BC and be with his family. Admiral Forcier has done an excellent job as the commander of Canada Command...

    "Master Corporals" - Merged Thread

The reason Mcpls have their own mess at some bases could be a  frat issue.  These bases are training establishments, and MCpl is usually the first rank at which an NCO becomes an instructor. Now, the MCpls are not yet senior NCOs, so the cant be socializing at the Sgts and Wos mess.. And, some...

Is it possible to do airborne course while in signals ?

Every jump course comes with strings.. when I did mine in 96, I had to state (in my memo) that I would volunteer for a full time jump position. I do believe that even years after your get your wings, if you turn down a posting to said jump position (thus refusing to jump) you have to take your...

    pay for flag officers

I know there is no set scale of pay.. but, I was just curious... specifically at the pay of the CDS.. The annual pay for the prime minister is an openly public table.. Its just funny that our top brass pay is so closely guarded.

    pay for flag officers

I find it interesting that the pay for flag officers is never listed on the pay scale sheets. Although, I have heard that they "negotiate" their pay. Out of curiosity, I have tried to find the annual salary for some generals/full colonels but I have come up empty handed. does anyone know the...

    Canadian Soldiers injured in rollover

I think that as the new troops get on the ground... unfortunately, we are going to see a few more of these in the coming weeks/month.. It takes a bit of practise getting used to the handling of the vehicle, and not to mention the roads over there.. Cheers,

    FRS vs Mil Issue Radios

It never ceases to amaze me when people who cant (or choose not to, might be the better answer) get their heads around our comms equipt. can be seen later that evening with fingers flying on the latest game boy, IPOD, x-box or dungeons and dragons game... I call it laziness. The equipment...

    Canadian Airborne..opening for reserves aswell?

"Parachute jumping tests and hardens a soldier under stress in a way nothing short of battle can do. You never know about others. But paratroopers will fight." - Field Marshall Montgomery - Enough said.. Cheers,
