Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

MacKenzie King tried to keep us out of the war, and tried to restrict us to convoy escort and bomber command. Yes, and? That list jumps from 1962 to 1969, I think it's reasonable to suspect the reductions sometime happened after the 1963 election (many of the big changes were in 1968, such as...

    The War in Ukraine

The TAPV? No argument there. I actually know the guy who flipped the TAPV on the 403 last year. He's in the Air Force now.

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

If it's a civilian ship that presents no obvious threat, but isn't supposed to be in the Arctic, then it would be an interdiction mission by the AOPS, which would reveal if it was carrying military equipment and personnel. I really don't understand what you're trying to say. That we should use...

    The War in Ukraine

Maybe have them design a 4x4 LAV to replace the TAPV, in whatever role that is supposed to be. It's been done in the past.

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

Yes, and? That would be very obvious what they're attempting, which would be a colossal failure on our part to allow it to happen. Again, Alert has those facilities. It would be a straightforward matter to transport everything there on a turbocharged Boxtop. There's also Yellowknife. And we...

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

Alert is C-17 capable. We fly them in twice a year for Op Boxtop. https://www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/services/operations/military-operations/current-operations/operation-boxtop.html Troops would be landed by helicopter either way, whether from ships or out of Alert or...

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

It's of significantly more use outside the Arctic increasing our global presence and capabilities. We have a lot more pressing issues than the Arctic. Politicians will mention Arctic sovereignty, but in real terms it's an afterthought and niche capability. Even the AOPS have spent more time...

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

The gun was terrible by all accounts, not sure why they didn't go with a standard M2, or a 20mm. It's a good concept, a modern version of the cupola might work.

Indirect Fires Modernization Project - C3/M777 Replacement

As far as I can tell, the KH179 was developed separately from the M198 and is unrelated to it. My line of thought is the KH179 might be good to backfill our artillery shortages while still being usable operationally, not just as a training system, while the M777 is unavailable.

Indirect Fires Modernization Project - C3/M777 Replacement

My BMG had about 20 C6s, and by the end 8 worked. I had one where the cocking handle flew off in the middle of a shoot, so I shoved a spent case on it for the rest of the shoot, then looked for the handle afterwards.

The G5 howitzer, which was based on Gerald Bull's GC-45. South Korea also developed their own 155mm, the KH179, which is still in production. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KH179
