The only way to resolve the problem is to seriously address the burnout issue. If you keep driving guys into the ground, eventually they, or their spouses are going to pull the plug and get out. The CLS kept talking about how the army needs a year long break ( I realize he has changed his tune...
As much as some of us agree with Ignatieff's original statements about peacekeeping before he entered politics, it is important to realize that now that he is involved in Canadian politics, he is backtracking on his previous statements. Flip flopping if you will. As I said before, I think...
This is exactly why I have a love/hate relationship with the idea of Ignatieff. I beleive his original speech that he gave while in the US is dead on and needs some genuine debate here in Canada. However, now that he has gotten into Canadian politics he is shying away from his previous...
You cant join the special forces right off the street. You need a few years in (not sure how many) and you need to be trades qualified.
Your best bet is to go infantry if SOF is where your ultimate endstate is.
Congrats, and dont worry about the complaining part. In case you havent noticed, everyone around here complains, and so does everyone else in the military. I wouldnt recognize this place if we all stopped complaining :D
Congrats, good to have you back!
Dont worry about being able to tell the difference. It really doesnt matter. Certainly none of them will care either. They will ALL just be happy that they have someone to help them get much needed admin done.
You are the one who brought up the notion of officers joining through the back door. I was merely retorting your points. And if you want to talk about tangents I would respectfully suggest you check your previous post - THAT is a tangent.
Insofar as the current thread is concerned; the...
I dont think that chosing to join as an officer right off the street can be considered going through the back door, which is the point that I was trying to make. If someone wants to be an officer, they should just do it, and initiate it right away instead of joining as an NCM first if their...
That’s a double edged sword George and you know it. I know several very good soldiers/leaders (and so do you) that are trying to commission but their chain of command either wont do it, or wont support them.
As for the training, obviously it is challenging and not everyone passes, bust most...
This is exactly why I am a big proponent of joining directly as an officer if thats what you want to do. It makes absolutely no sence to join as an NCM when you really want to become an officer, and then try to get it done latter. Once you are an NCM there are too many people that can stop you...
I would not be too concerned about one WO's opinion and thats all it is. My own opinion is that there is no such thing as a civilian in the reserves. A reservist is not a civvy, he/she is a serving member period. Unfortunately not all reservists look at it that way and as a result it can lead...
You do not have to wait to hit Sgt to become an officer from the ranks. I was a Cpl that was PLQ qualified. I went officer and was granted BOMQ and CAP on my component transfer to the reg force from the reserves. If you are already an NCM and you want to become an officer you are best to...
Unfortunately I cant provide any reference to that information. The reason I say that Int Op is available for direct entry is because of information I have read on these forums. I know of at least one poster here who joined as an Int Op off the street reg force. I beleive he is on his BMQ...
Becoming an intelligence operator is a difficult process for several reasons. The intelligence branch is relatively small compared to other military occupations therefore the amount of positions available is limited. Also, intelligence used to be closed off to civilians coming in off the...
Some in the unit may be pissed but too bad. You cant forgo a lifelong career ambition because of that. In my opinion nobody in the military has any business getting upset about a member moving from one part to another. Its all service to the same nation. Dont even worry about wether or not...
Do not release. Transfer to a new reserve unit where you are living now. You have the rest of the summer to get it all sorted out. Start parading with them and get your knee problem sorted out. As soon as you are 100% on the physical side do a component transfer to the regular force.
Either...

OTTAWA -- The federal government has put off asking shipbuilders for ideas on the construction of a flotilla of Arctic patrol...
The sad reality is, you might even get away with it. The same cannot be said for NCMs though. I remember heading into the armories on a day off to meet up with a friend, the intent was to spend no more then 5 minutes on DND property and then off we would go to whatever our plans were. I had...
