    Navy to consider gender-neutral ranks

That’s what we called the MS and below mess on the Victoria.  Junior rates mess, I just figured it was something that came from the RN.

    The Post-pandemic Canadian Armed Forces

I love these. For starters, this unit is assuming everyone has internet access.  How about those individuals with data caps?  Will they be able to claim overages?  It just seems like they are opening the door to all kinds of ass pain. I don’t get it.  My daughter just graduated high school and...

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

Gripen it is! While I agree that the F-35 is the only choice.  I feel there could be pressure in the near future to create “jobs, jobs, JOBS!”.  Which is what the Gripen brings to the table....  :(

    The Post-pandemic Canadian Armed Forces

There is something in the works with PLD. I don't know exactly what, but the next ECE (whatever that is) won't happen without a PLD restructuring. This is according to several presentations I found buried on the Sharepoint site. This was happening before the COVID came to town.

Why NATO needs a Standing Maritime Group in the arctic

Infrastructure and location.  The town isn’t much, although I have heard great things about Goose Bay from the folks who have been posted there...  I could be off, but it seems like a decent staging point for arctic surveillance.

Why NATO needs a Standing Maritime Group in the arctic

I’ve always thought that the east coast CP-140 fleet should be based in Goose Bay.

Helicopter/Cyclone discussion (split from HMCS Fredricton thread)

I wasn’t a part of that exercise.  I heard about it and I think it’s something we (CAF) should aim for at least 4 times a year. A huge problem we have is we are all short bodies and I feel like we are training to the minimum, just enough to be safe and effective. It’d be nice to have our most...

Helicopter/Cyclone discussion (split from HMCS Fredricton thread)

Every time I worked with the RCN on ASW events, it always felt like amateur hour.  To be fair it wasn’t exclusive to the RCN, there’s been plenty of times where our tasking made zero sense.  The ASW capabilities of the Cyclone and Aurora compliment each other nicely and when you combine the...

    Status on Victoria-class Submarines?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m almost certain we had 3 subs at sea back when the Chicoutimi caught fire.  The Victoria, Windsor and Chicoutimi were all out.

Helicopter/Cyclone discussion (split from HMCS Fredricton thread)

I think with the limited time the Freddie has left there’s no point trying to get another Cyclone to her.  Especially since they’ve ordered a “pause”. They are less effective, but still very relevant without an organic air asset.

    Transport within place of duty

I don’t know if the folks on MOAT right now have a vehicle or not, but we were getting the students a vehicle from transport.  I don’t know who paid for it.

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

Beauty.  But the AFB which will be home to the F-35 is Eielson, and it is currently -31 there right now (much colder on average than Anchorage). C-295 is not a viable option for a CP-140 replacement.  The C-295 does not meet the speed requirement nor the endurance requirement. Keep in mind the...

    CP-140 Aurora

I get it, I think we all do.  10 isn’t enough.  Neither are 2 JSS, 4 SSK, or 85 fighters.  The list goes on and on. If the option is 10 capable aircraft or 15 less capable aircraft, I’d take the 10..

    CP-140 Aurora

Yes.  Eventually the holes in the cheese will line up.  My last Aurora flight was interesting...

    CP-140 Aurora

Right now the only aircraft that meets our needs is the P8.  With a little effort, this information can be found on the DWAN, however the P8 is too pricey so here we are putting lipstick on a pig.  I’m sure the P1 could be added to the list, however it was not on the document I was looking at...

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

The most recent SOR I read had those numbers. I figured a ship like the KD would be a fantastic humanitarian platform.  AOR duties would be secondary, I wouldn’t expect it replace the AOR, just complement the force.  Instead of sending our AOR to humanitarian crisis areas we could send the...

    CP-140 Aurora

It is an Interesting time.  Both MAISR and RPAS will reduce the amount of MMA required to replace the Aurora. Hopefully the P8 line is still open when the decision is made.

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

You aren't wrong. For the same reasons you stated I find it odd that we don't have a ship like the Karel Doorman.  Yes our JSS can support various mission types, but let's not kid ourselves, it is just an AOR.  It is planned to have a crew of 199 (not including airdet) with space for 239.  How...

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

As soon as the MH community masters the ASP (Acoustic Processor) on the Cyclone they will own the UWW game.  A TG with a few frigates and the JSS could quite possibly have 3-4 cyclones... No where to hide. I understand the CH-148 dipping sonar is probably the best out there right now.  I am...

Yet they will still produce a quality product. Unlike Irving who continually deliver crap.
