    CP-140 Aurora

You know what would be outstanding?  If we shelved this idea and hopped on the P8 train.  Australia, New Zealand, UK, Norway, South Korea and India have all made the switch.  Oh, but we will have the best P3 on the planet!

    AESOp ( MOC 081)

There are plenty of direct entry AES Ops, probably the luckiest folks in the CAF. I think getting into any small trade can be tough, but there are so many factors at play and the only one you control is the only one that matters. Your application. I’d start with a visit to the recruiting...

    AESOp ( MOC 081)

You will be away quite often.  I seriously doubt the rotary wing deploys more often than the MH/LRP communities. Expect to be gone, expect your wife to be pissed off, and don't expect a steady schedule while posted to an operational squadron. *However, the job is fantastic.  My time spent...

PaCE : Performance Appraisal and Competency system

This makes so much sense.  I’ve been saying this since I was issued my first PKI card back in 2002/03. Every person in the CF should have a PKI card so why not adopt the system that the US uses? This new evaluation system seems more efficient, however I think we will still make things more...

Police in Canada can now demand breath samples in bars, at home - Global News

Would it be a bad idea to have a interlock in every vehicle? Perhaps Victoria city council can table a motion to have car manufacturers foot the bill for checkpoints.  If cars were installed with interlocks there would be a reduced need for checkpoints.

Meanwhile back at the perpetually offended tent/Infidel tattoo questions

You aren’t wrong. Many folks were wearing Infidels badges, hats, shirts, and apparently tattoos. We were often referred to as “Infidels”, by the very folks who wanted to kill us. I remember seeing baby onesies with “little Infidel” printed on them. I’m sorry but I think this whole thing is...

Eligibility to collect Hardship Allowance (HA) and Sea Duty Allowance (SDA) conc

The position I occupied was designated by the CDS so I was able to collect both. 10.3.08(1) (Allowances for designated positions) A member who is entitled to an allowance under CBI 10.3.05 (Hardship Allowance) or CBI 10.3.07 (Risk Allowance), unless the member occupies a specific position on...

As aircrew I kept my aircrew allowance while deployed. I was collecting both hardship, risk, and aircrew allowance.

Usefulness of Modern Drill [Split from Paying Compliments]

Apples and oranges.  Marching around on the parade square and dealing with a weapons emergency on a CF-18 is vastly different.  I don’t see first responders out marching around for hours on end and they seem to do just fine.

    Navy drones

The UUV would be good for detecting mines. Detecting subs?  I am not sold, not yet.  Would the UUV utilize auto-detect software?  If so it would have to have an on-board database of both friendly and enemy assets.  Would it utilize active or passive detection?  Active sonar would be tricky...

    Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

Just in time for the election.  Billions for new coast guard ships no one bats an eye.  Billions for a new fighter jet and everyone loses their mind.

    CP-140 Aurora

It would be better if they upgraded the EO/IR camera to something better (instead of another turret). It would also be nice if they could fully integrate EO/IR similar to what the Winnipeg Police have in Air1. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=faodCovX2iQ I also think they could have installed a...

RCAF Flight Suit (ALSE) - Split from VAdm Norman

I got lucky here in CYWG. I successfully exchanged my old very faded flight suit for a never been worn (old style) one. It felt like Christmas.

Air Combat Systems Officer ( ACSO )

I know the week option sounds appealing.  However, the BEW course covers quite a bit of information.  Personally I’d recommend the DL method if that’s available to you.

I would expect to fly back and forth for each course.  Pick up an Aeroplan card and create a WestJet Rewards account.

Air Combat Systems Officer ( ACSO )

Last I heard there wasn’t much of a backlog.  They have also started loading 12 per course and have made drastic changes to the course outline.  It is a much shorter course now. Odds are that you will remain in Trenton until your course starts.

    Defending Canadian Arctic Sovereignty

Won’t happen for numerous reasons. The US controls the arctic.  While we like to pretend we do, we don’t. We need to find a way to work with them, instead of digging our heals in.  At the end of the day they have the resources and we don’t.  Everyone likes to slam China for their...

    CP-140 Aurora

I had a read of what NOAA did to their P3, they did upgrade their engines on their bird, but it wasn’t the NP2000 engine (unless I missed it).  I did find some articles online that would indicate that NASA is seeking to upgrade a P3 with the NP2000.

    CP-140 Aurora

So the new props are “on” again? Last I heard was that they dropped the idea.  I really don’t see a point as the Aurora has 10 years left?  It would take them close to a decade to get the project completed.
