    Russia Launches Giant Special-Missions Submarine

These sound like lethal weapons.  However, the noise they would throw in the water is astronomical.  Anything going 55Kts underwater is going to be extremely loud.  We (as in the west) should be able to locate and destroy these vehicles with ease.

    Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

The Cyclone with it’s passive capability should be able to handle a one on one submarine engagement with ease (should the need arise).

Col. (ret'd) Francis (Frank) Bayne, OMM CD, R.I.P.

Dependant Reassignment Program.  I laughed more than I should have after reading that. This is gold!  I feel like dropping just enough of this story into “The  Facebook” to get people spinning. RIP :salute:

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

Wasn’t our ALSC idea brought to life by the Dutch as the HNLMS Karel Doorman?

Canada expects foreign meddling in October election, Chrystia Freeland says

They will post it on their website, leave it up for a few days.  News outlets will air it, folks will spread it on social media, then they will take it down and apologize. Similar to the “Soldiers in our streets” ad they ran back in 2006.

    Transgender in the CF (merged)

My feeling is that we all go as one or we don't go at all. Host nation doesn't support it, then the host nation doesn't get our support.  I know it is much more complicated than that.  Although it doesn't have to be.

    AESOp ( MOC 081)

Congrats.  You will not be waiting for 2 years to get on course.  I can’t say when you’ll walk through the doors of B84 here in Winnipeg, but I can say it won’t be two years. After you toss your anchor aside you will most likely be sent to 423 or 443 for OJT.  Make the most of your OJT and...

    Do you mean these pictures?

Air Combat Systems Officer ( ACSO )

Newly minted ACSOs will most likely find themselves in the MH/LRP/FWSAR communities.  Alpha Jets and AAR are posting options as well, but there are fewer spots to fill in those communities.  The odds of being posted to Alpha jets is slim, not impossible.

    Dynamic Manta

The bird of prey would have made for a much cooler piece of artwork. Not for you Dimsum.  But perhaps some on here don’t know where we get our MH call signs from, they usually have some association with the name of the ship.  In this case it’s Raptor, from HMCS Toronto. Toronto is also home of...

Why being wrong will make you a better leader

During PER season (17/18) my supervisor requested that we submit our thoughts on his performance directly to his supervisor. A different approach to PER season.

RPAS (was JUSTAS): the project to buy armed Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAVs

This doesn't make a lick of sense. I could see Canada operating a fleet of Predators, but this?  This is madness (if true).  The Eurohawk/Global Hawk is much more than we require. I certainly hope NATO comes in and out bids us.  Maybe that is the plan, have NATO think we are interested so NATO...

    All about LTA (merged)

What’s the policy for claiming a premium economy ticket?  Or any other economy ticket (there’s plenty of different tiers)? I was under the impression that the LTA is a set rate based on the formula and that’s it.  If that amount covered the cost of your ticket then bonus, if not then you were...

    RCAF aircrew shortage

This could work.  Submarine Crewing Allowance works this way.  Submariners get two allowances, however SUBCRA ceases 3 years after a submariner is posted ashore (or out of a submarine position).

You Want To Be A Pilot : 2018 - present

The food at the base kitchen is actually pretty decent. As for the ACSO/AEC did they change things?  Went I went there for my ACS you could pass over all but if you failed a domain it was a headshot (for ACSOs).

Air Combat Systems Officer ( ACSO )

No worries, I knew what you meant (I meant to type - If selected in April). I am familiar with the selection dates and all that goes with it.  This time last year I was in a similar position.  That being said, I am currently on course at 402.  If I hear anything about upcoming courses/changes...

On average a course starts every two months.  Selected in April?  I’d expect a July/Sept start.

    Paying Compliments (Saluting, Verbal Address)

Thanks, exactly what I was looking for!  I guess the comparison to saluting was a bad example.  I had always associated it with someone of a higher rank (or executive position) entering the room.
