    Paying Compliments (Saluting, Verbal Address)

Figured this would be the best place to post this. I need to know if I am missing something here.  Currently in a training establishment and we have been instructed to call room when the instructors enter the room.  Which is isn’t a big deal, however, my issue is that I have a classmate who is...

Passengers unable to leave plane on Goose Bay tarmac during extreme cold warning

Goose has the infrastructure (the base) and customs will show up when called.  I was surprised at how much there was in Goose Bay. Here’s a story from 2015.  https://www.cnn.com/2015/06/14/travel/united-flight-diverted-to-canada/index.html

    CAF Beard policy-CANFORGEN 158/18

Can I assume beards are permitted onboard naval vessels for religious reasons? If so, are these individuals treated as liabilities?  I get the impression the RCN feels that everyone with a beard is a liability in a firefighting situation.

    CAF Beard policy-CANFORGEN 158/18

Unless you have a religious reason to wear a beard. Some trades don’t reach OFP for years, seems silly to restrict it to that.  Not that I’m growing a beard, I’d look like the wolf man.  I’m just trying to understand the thought process behind the OFP decision.

    CAF Beard policy-CANFORGEN 158/18

Regarding the OFP bit.  Is it your initial OFP?  Not that I am gunning for the ZZ Top look, but I am on my 3rd trade, under this policy would I have been expected to shave off my (theoretical) glorious beard with every OT?  Just something that came up in conversation the other day. Does...

Dare to be Extraordinary - Aurora

Not bad. I could do without the smiles though. I think they should have went with the overland angle and used footage from Impact.  Kids like EO/IR. World class tech 👍.  Aircraft that’s older than dirt 👎.

OP PROJECTION - Asia Pacific region monitoring

I’m just looking into the future and when it’s time for budget cuts, what better asset to cut than the one that does nothing.  I get it, Joe Public doesn’t need to know everything, but an Op like this is in support of the UN and I figured JT would have been beating the UN drum.

OP PROJECTION - Asia Pacific region monitoring

I agree with you.  However, I feel the average Canadian doesn’t feel the same.  When the story broke on CBC it was probably the first time anyone heard about the Op.  I find this disappointing, given that this was the second time we were over there with the Aurora.

OP PROJECTION - Asia Pacific region monitoring

Makes sense I had thought either the OSM-Exp or GSM-Exp could have worked, but no.  Are the CP-140 crews and support teams eligible?

OP PROJECTION - Asia Pacific region monitoring

IMHO this is the type of Op that the Expedition medal was created for.  Not Op Impact, which has been going on since 2014. No news about the previous CP-140 deployment?  It's almost as if it didn't happen 🤔.

Yes you will be fine.  Just make sure you keep everything and ensure your leave pass is stamped.

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

I agree, it was a quick guess.  I initially thought it could have been a MOD 0 gun.  It is not a Type 23.  Reverse image search on "the google" indicates that this photo was taken in Mare Harbour, Falkland Islands. Here's the same pic from a different angle.

Australian navy's hunt for new sub to replace Collins class

The Aussies certainly do jump on things quicker.  However, every once in a while someone will come on here and tell us their procurement system has issues.  All I know is they seem to be kitted out quite nicely and usually in a timely manner.  We can’t get our shit together at all.  Then...

    Is this Stolen Valour

Are they poking fun at themselves? It’s a bad patch, I would have used a seagull (finding Nemo gull) instead of a falcon and changed the wording to “Barely Airborne” across the top.  That way it wouldn’t be taken seriously.

    AESOp ( MOC 081)

It might go smoothly, if you add a few apples to the pie every year, then eventually you’ll have a pie.  All positions won’t need to be filled all at once so technically it may not be as painful as we think. Back to my comment about outcan, those positions could easily be chopped.  Yes I know...
