"So You Want To Be A Pilot" Merged Thread 2002 - 2018

@ This one actually came down from the CO of the school at the time. I remember our staff saying 'if you guys don't like it, then please, feel free to go talk to the Sergeant-Major about it' lol. @ On that note, the two guys in my pod that came Week 8 did get an extra hour or two a night...

"So You Want To Be A Pilot" Merged Thread 2002 - 2018

@Flyer1987: I just finished BMOQ and we had a bunch of UTPNCM's, BOTP'ers and guys that had Reserve BMQ join our course in Week 8. We lost about 5 of those to the Express Test as they failed to meet the minimum's at St-Jean for PT. All the rest had no real problems transitioning into the course...

Joining Instructions - SUEP vs ROTP

I think Barts meant you won't get the advance at CFLRS that they provide new recruits with. Some people joining up could have no money at all for buying their items.

Marks / Grades: School / GED or PLAR [MERGED]

While yes, it is too late to apply for this year, I wouldn't hold off your application because you lack the 6 U/M courses. If this is something you really want to do, apply in September of this year for the 2011/2012 year. That's the only way you'll know if you're qualified. On a side note, if...

Joining Instructions - SUEP vs ROTP

Thanks for the responses, that really clears up a few things for me that my ULO has not been able to provide me. I'm glad I won't be needing my transcripts as my school has put a 'freeze' on all transcripts since the beginning of April and I wouldn't be able to obtain a copy until at least May...

Joining Instructions - SUEP vs ROTP

I'm heading to BMOQ this Saturday and while looking through the joining instructions, there's a section that states: e. Certified copies of diplomas: Officer-Candidates from the Direct Entry Program should bring a certified copy of their university or college graduation certificate...

    Skydiver grabs glider's tail fin

Boy, that was something else. I'll have to add that to my 'to-do' list.

    RMC vs. CMR Traditions

George, When I applied last year I was originally told I'd be going to RMC and was informed that, due to what the RC believed to be residence renovations, I may be spending my first year of university at CMR (not a prep year) and would then be transferred to Kingston to finish up the remaining...

    BMOQ Grad Day/Travel Day

I've been slated for attending BMOQ this summer, and whilst trying not to count my chickens before they hatch, I would like to enquire about how the end of course works. My folks wish to drive up to St. Jean to watch the ceremony, and from my understanding off the CFLRS site, graduation parade...

    ROTP 2010-2011

There was last summer, and we had a notable amount of people fail it. These people received an official verbal warning stating that they will be required to take on additional physical training (not sure if it is personal training provided by the CF or how that part works) throughout the months...

"So You Want To Be A Pilot" Merged Thread 2002 - 2018

That the current backlog of pilots waiting to be trained is too large, meaning that DEO pilots positions are not required/nonexistent. Since ROTP is recruiting for <insert years> down the road, the expected future demand of pilots is what is used in offering positions now to ROTP students. From...

"So You Want To Be A Pilot" Merged Thread 2002 - 2018

It's not so much more people applying as DEO, but rather that limited/no DEO pilots have been hired in the past few years, leaving the DEO pool growing as new applicants come along.

CEOTP (Continuing Ed Officer Trg Plan) 2003-2018 [Merged]

Generally, the only difference between airside and groundside is that the airside takes ground school and does flight training on top of the regular courses taken. That and tuition is a lot cheaper for groundside  8). Both will graduate with a degree featuring the CAM designation (there are...

CEOTP (Continuing Ed Officer Trg Plan) 2003-2018 [Merged]

The word is still the same. Applicants can attend the CAM program via ROTP, but flight will not be subsidized. I laughed when the recruiter said applicants can either wait years to get their PFT then BFT slot or pay for a PFT bypass and wait slightly less than years for their BFT slot.

    ROTP 2010-2011

With the long awaited selections boards on the horizon, I would just like to offer some small advice to help alleviate the anxiety you will all most likely be feeling. If you read that someone on this board received an offer or did not receive an offer, don't jump to any conclusions about your...

CEOTP (Continuing Ed Officer Trg Plan) 2003-2018 [Merged]

I have talked and confirmed with both the SEM and CFRC London that all new CAM applicants will no longer be funded for their flight training. Tuition and books will all be covered as per usual ROTP, but if the flight option is chosen, the costs will have to be covered by the applicant. The CAM...

Air factor results from Downsview? I think mine were close to a month or more. My friend is heading to ASC this weekend, and I overhead a kid at the airport talking about going this week. Sounds like a full course.

    Generation Kill: Show vs Book

Yup, I should have mentioned that One Bullet Away is in my basket, but I need $39 for the free shipping . ;D After poking around and hearing what you guys have to say, I'm not going to waste the money.

    Generation Kill: Show vs Book

I've just finished watching the show (again) and read the Rolling Stone articles "The Killer Elite". I have some Chapters gift cards to spend and I was wondering if anyone knew whether the book offered more in depth explanation and character development than the show, or if the show follows the...

Zero Pilots Being Hired in 2009?

I agree with Loachman. In talking with the Captain at my enrollment ceremony last year, he informed me that, in his opinion, once the BFT backlog gets taken care of, all those many, many, many pilots awaiting training will hit the wall with the OTU's. Here's to hoping that it gets cleared up in...
