I'm beginning to believe that some of these Members of Parliament need to be spoon fed information like a toddler his apple sauce. What kind of people can show up to a debate so completely uninformed (by their own actions) and yet have the audacity speak as though they are educated on the situation?
My whole reason for starting this thread.....
It kinda reminds me of the joke we used to have about guys who would be in theatre for a little over a month and then get sent home because of personal issues they kept secret from the Chain of Command..... "Operation Reel Me In Honey"...... Then...
The plot thickens.....

And with the highest repects to the very recently deceased, I hope that this latest casualty is not used to blindly steer todays debate.
Totally agree'd..... We are finally gaining some real credibility externally.
Due to a good portion of the population (who steer the public opinion polls) having a total lack of understanding of our role on the world stage, I truely believe this vote could go either way.

Wednesday afternoon 6 hour debate followed by a VOTE to pull out in Feb 07, or extend to Feb 09.
I guess i'll find out if i'm building up or tearing down this time around....
x2
I also had the pleasure of working as a temp with the "Finishing School".
I'm quite sure we could bring allot more to the table than the US National Guardsman who are doing it now.
As a member of the unit who will be having the Black Hatters crew our LAV III's, I can assure you that no one here is happy about it, but we have no other choice and welcome their technical assistance. This is not a matter of "Farming" out our crew positions for a lack of interest, so please...
You forgot DBIED, Donkey Borne IED.... i'm not kidding either.
IED components come in all kinds of different "flavours of the month". During Roto III it was 4L Motor Oil Jugs which was almost laughable as almost every Seacan shop in Kabul had dozens of them out in front.
I can tell you that our EOD guys were detroying TON's of left over munitions from the Soviet/DRA era. There is no shortage of explosive materiel and landmines to convert to IED's.
As for making devices, i'm not gonna get into great depth here, but some are so simple that all they require is a...
I don't wanna go into the weeds on this, but not everyone who is waiver'd, has any choice in the matter short of going to the social worker/padre.
I'm not bitching (I can't deploy on this one because I am 2 years behind in my Career Crses), but it should be known that the pace is very high...
I don't nessesarily agree with you on this.....
For TFK Roto 3 my Sqn had more than 40% on waiver. We are slowly getting the TF 3-06 Engr Sqn stood up and i'm pretty sure its gonna be similar.... Our contribution is 1/3rd larger and we still have a half Sqn oversea's.
Not sure whats going on...
I think that this is more a case of fulfilling an immediate requirement not unlike the Chinook purchase plans, rather than the initial steps to a complete overseas restructuring. The RG-31 will fill a niche, like some of the above posters mentioned, between Peacekeeping and full on Armed...
I will be heavily involved with the pretraining for TF3-06, and intend to work with the IEDD lads to develop some realistic scenarios based on actual attacks in the Kandahar Region.
KevinB, I totally agree with you on the topic of RWS. Half of our new APC's have them and no doubt it encourages people to stare at a monitor instead of scanning their surroundings. But, if it becomes too dangerous to ride heads up, it does provide the crew with some options. Based on the...
Hey don't get me wrong, its just day after day I see people slam equipment on here, or pick it apart so bad it leaves the slightly less educated confused. I think that this purchase is a step in the right direction. Feedback about the G-Wagons made its way upstairs and I think they came up with...
I agree that Designation (Route Recce) and Clearance are two separate tasks, but it can and has been used for Route Proving/Proofing after a Clearance Op.
Driving over a High Risk uncleared route would be very dumb regardless of the vehicle. Even though its mine "hardened", past incidents...
