You're getting it......for whatever purpose (RG-31 with RWS)

No, not at all. I get paid to find roads and designate them. Sometimes you get stuck. FWIW, all we had to do to the rolled one was tip it back on to its wheels, top up the oil, and then we drove it away.

You're getting it......for whatever purpose (RG-31 with RWS)

You talk about stopping IED casulties like its a bad thing? Almost every contingent I worked with would have given their left arm for a Nyala, including those riding around in open top G-wagons. Open top vehicles bristling with weapons are no deterrent or concern to a pressure plate IED or a...

You're getting it......for whatever purpose (RG-31 with RWS)

I for one think this is great news.... Having spend lots of time in both the Mamba as a Recce Driver on Palladium Roto II and the Nyala as the Engr Recce Sgt on Athena Roto III, I can't think of a more well rounded, safer and rugged vehicle.

    Engineer Support in Light/SF Roles

We tried this last week.... My Troop is comprised of 3 Sections. During an assymetrical OBUA Assault Scenario, a Light Section was attached to each Light Platoon to assist with Dynamic Building Entry and to ID possible Booby Trap's and IED's. The 3rd Section was left mounted in an MTVE with a ZL...

    Engineer Support in Light/SF Roles

Interesting article on US Army Light Engineers (Sapper Platoon) in Kosovo: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0FDF/is_1_31/ai_78974286#continue Some excerpts I found interesting: Instead of having each squad of the platoon tasked to each infantry company, the task-force commander...

    Ground Designation

Latitude? Not much of that left in the SQMS on Roto III :) and i'll leave it at that. I'm starting to understand what you mean by your last comment. I'd much rather be rolling around in my Nyala "over there" then being back here with this day to day regimental chinese water torture.

    Engineer Support in Light/SF Roles

This is my own challenge.... Trying to provide a high level of Engr Sp in a dismounted role and get away from dropping off two Sappers with a mine detector and prodder. I think i've found a workable plan to get me through the Fall Ex. On the current Operations this is easier said than done...

    Ground Designation

Agree'd.... The current FOM and Ground Designation process needs to be overhauled to realistically conduct Combat Operations. We ran into many situations during my time on Athena where the FOM process and the Tactical Situation didn't meet eye to eye. Trying to covertly establish Op's and...

    Kabul health/lungs concern

It was estimated that a full 67% (416,000) of the 620,000 soldiers who served with the Soviet 40th Army in Afghanstan suffered "serious illness requiring hospitalization" not related to combat operations.... Hospitalization for combat related injuries numbered only 54,000. Don't get me wrong, I...

    Engineer Support in Light/SF Roles

Well this post has certainly been an interesting/educational read.... Being from the mid 90's generation of Sappers who never had an opportunity to serve with a Commando in the CAR or have Sex, Snitzel and drink Green Grenades in Lahr (but my helmet has heard many stories about both :D, mostly...

    Mamba's

Not a chance my friend.... The big difference being that 90% of the time, the Gunner and CC of a LAV III is heads up, often with an Air Sentry in the back as well... Nyala, because of its great visibility, is all heads down and i'll take being surrounded by 57mm thick glass over having my head...

    Mamba's

He ought to update his page as most of the comments on there are pure speculation and some are totally untrue. Nice pictures though.

    Mamba's

I have to sorta disagree with you.... I'm gonna try and keep this as close to a "Coles Notes" reply as possible: ***You will not see the word PROVING in here as it is no longer a recognised term, and has taken me a long time to eradicate it from my vocabulary in order to appease the Pointy...

    Best Engineer Project

Putting in a steel quad/footbridge in at Port Hawksbury as part of the Bridges for Canada Project/Trans Canada Trail while I was at CFSME. We had to assemble the Bridge by hand and Crane it onto a 2E + 3 MR. The Cranes were then postioned at both banks while we moved the ferry up the Causeway...
