And to add to Mikes point.... The part that really picks my ass with all of this is that a Nyala (Mine Protective Vehicle used by Engineer Recce) is only a couple of thousand more than an "Up Armoured" G-Wagon and the mine protection value is much better than a Bison and almost double that of a...
Hi guys,
I need some help to settle a bet with my OC.
During our ROE Trg for Op Athena III the point was brought up that we are instinctivly trained to "Double Tap" the centre of visible mass of a target. This kinda goes against the ROE's as they strongly advise to use deliberate aimed "Shots"...
40mm Grenades have centrifically armed impact fuses. So in order for them to High Order they need to turn "X" number of revolutions in flight for the fuse train to become armed. This makes them quite safe when being handled and is also a safe guard against someone accidentally popping off an...
JP Benoit, Levaseur.... and a bunch of others who's names escape me.
I think Frank Smith and Chris Anderson also did it as well....
We havn't sent anyone lately but that has allot to do with the Op tempo.... rather than vacancies on the crse itself.
You started your crse yet?
Yup.... you said it. Because of a very big fuel spill some years back it isn't safe to smoke outside. Because of permafrost the fuel never really completely dissapated.
Its not that uncommon really....
When the Op tempo permits 2 CER usually sends a couple of deserving pers on the crse.
As for the Tab, its not authorized for wear on any Canadian Uniform including the WBCH.
I'm pretty sure 2 CER is the poster child of the future for all of our Units and would not be surprised if you see 1 CER following suit after Op Athena Roto 2. The only big change in the near future is the number of Field Troops per Field Squadron, but the 3 Sections per Troop is here to stay...
I hate always being the devils advocate but I need to resolve some disinformation with this post.
Here is the latest Field Squadron Organization:
SHQ
OC: Maj
LAV III & Driver: Spr/Cpl
Gunner: Spr/Cpl
SSM: MWO
LSVW & Driver: Spr/Cpl
2 I/C: Capt
LSVW & Driver: Spr/Cpl
Op's O: Lt/Capt
Op's...
As it stands right now, 2 CER no longer has any Light Troops' in its organization.
Both of the Field Squadrons are based on the M113 and do not have any "Jump" Sections per say.
In 1998ish, 2 CER lost its remaining hard Para Positions and its last true "Jump" Section.
Regt Recce, which...
I'm EDIT and am currently with 1 Tp at 2 CER...
I arrived to 2 CER mid 1995. I returned to the Unit in August 2003 after doing 2 years at CFSME and a year at 4 ESR.
You wouldn't happen to be Mike Cantley by chance?
Later
The WH Tp's are now temporarily using M113's that were given up by the Pnr Pl's and through Regt Veh Re-Org's. I have no idea when we are supposed to take delivery of the new Pnr LAV III's but I would imagine we will end up going back to the 1 Tracked Sqn and 1 Wheeled Sqn when the arrive.
The...
Interesting observations Yardape...
I would like to start out by saying that I hate the 1m Turret as well, but it is a heck of an improvement over the old .50 Cal in a Flex Mount. Your's and McG's idea of having a PWS mounted on the Backbone Vehicle of the Reg Force Combat Engineer is...
Hmmm,
Allot has happenned since I last posted about this topic.
For one thing, I have completed the LAV III Gunner and Crew Commander Course. I completed the MTVE/TLAV Crew Commander/Turret Course in Gagetown over a year ago.
My education on both vehicles has increased, however my feelings...
I also gained more exposure to the TLAV through 4 ESR.
When did you work with them? I just came back to 2 CER after completing a year long stint as 2 Sect Comd with 22 Fd Tp.
I have some reservations about the turret. Many MTVL & TLAV will have a remote weapon station and I have wondered if...
"Is the MTVL the right vehicle for Engineers in a LAV Bde?"
YES
After spending some time with the new MTVE & TLAV Tp (4 ESR), I am very sold on it. Easy 70km/h, designed by 041‘s for 041‘s, great new compartment heater... list goes on. Feel free to ask questions.
Keep the ground pounders in...
I‘m not so sure I agree with you there my friend. If this was true, DMCARM wouldn‘t keep closing us to OT out etc. We have been closed for 4 of the last 6 years. CFSME cannot keep pace with the holes we need filled, and units have been getting small waves of new guys, one unit at a time. So if...
I saw one on E-Bay a while back....Had a good chuckle. The first edition with the little green cover made me laugh. All these little cartoon characters showing you how to dig a trench etc. I must admit I still have mine with all the rest of my "work" books. It‘s good for looking up all of those...
