The Marines have been labeled as having better tactics and porcedures in fighting counterinsurgency warfare than the Army. During the first couple years of the Iraqi occupation, the regions under jurisdiction of Marine units were known to be the most stable.

So the AF has to stand up another Wing in order to make it 'deployable'...I don't get it but obviously someone has their reasons.

Don't really know how much merrit it holds considering its written by the former Chief of Staff of Ministers McCallum and Graham.
I was browsing the 07/08 Report on Plans and Priorities and I came across this little tidbit:
"Contributing to international security and stability, the Regular Force will be restructured into cohesive Affiliated Battle Groups operationally focused on mid-intensity, full-spectrum operations in...
"One government source said that after recent discussions inside government they now expect that Mr. Harper will ask Parliament to approve a different role in Afghanistan after 2009, rather than an extension of the current Kandahar deployment."...

"I’m bringing in CASW, but I have to remove something from the inventory and that something could be 60mm mortars,” Riffou said. “They’re using 60mm mortars right now in [the Afghan]...

"The Army still intends to field a predominately wheeled vehicle fleet in the future. However, Riffou said the service recognizes the need for heavier tracked vehicles."

General "Raymond" Hillier...?
OMG. Have these guys been living in a box while their country has been at war?
About time.
If it's waiting for final approval on Harper's desk, it's going to get passed. Let's just hope we find funding to equip all three armoured regiments.
I didn't say CSOR was like Army Rangers, in fact I disagree with that statement. There are definetly similarities that I can see, but they are not one in the same.
As for pers rotation, watch and shoot I geuss.
I don't really think that will be the arrangement. Logic suggests it will end up something like how the U.S. Army Rangers are organized.
Pers who are selected would serve with the unit for 3 years and each of the DA companies will rotate through a managed readiness basis. After the 3 year term...
Makes sense that things start to slow down a little.
It's pretty hard for any military to re-equip after years of neglect, transform to meet current and future demands, and then gear itself towards securing a major upcoming domestic event...especially when the country is at war!
:salute:
Okay so there seems to be alot of resistance to Light Infantry in the Army Order of Battle...so the question is where do we go from here?
On the topic of infantry structure I still think the obvious solution to the managed-readiness system is to stand up three more infantry battalions; this is...
Point seen, a few proposals to counter:
Mobility - New chinooks are on the way, and, along with existing griffins, these can be used to increase mobility of light forces. From what I hear this is actually the ideal method of mobility in this fight since troops and supplies can fly over IEDs...
