"So You Want To Be A Pilot" Merged Thread 2002 - 2018

Just what I've read. To clarify, the measurements I posted are the base pilot requirements for the Australian Air Force, which I am only assuming mirror the Canadian ones. Also, I'm not sure if the trainer has an ejection seat - the jet trainer definetely would, but would a prop driven aircraft...

"So You Want To Be A Pilot" Merged Thread 2002 - 2018

If I've read my info right (perhaps a real pilot can confirm) they all start out on the same aircraft. Everyone. From there they go off to specialized rotary, multiengined, and jet aircraft training - but the initial trainer is the same. The trainer has an ejection seat, so I'm guessing that...

"So You Want To Be A Pilot" Merged Thread 2002 - 2018

The ejection seat measurement is the one for the trainer that everyone uses - I think I read that somewhere..... I don't know what it is for Canada, but I'd imagine the requirements are fairly similar between Western nations that fly similar aircraft. Height - minimum 163 and maximum 193cm...

    politicians and security

The problem with your "politicians are regular humans" idea is that it's wrong. They're not regular. They are in positions of power to actually make things happen, and influence the lives of millions of people. For instance, had Steven Harper sent troops to Iraq, there would be many members of...

    Soldiers still wait for outfits

...that and the 90%+ of Canadians who elect the politicians and ultimately determine foreign policy. If you'll remember the last election, Stephen Harper didn't seem to be too keen to push an Iraq agenda on Canadians.

    SBS units for the CF?

If you had researched further back, say about a year, there were CBC stories about how JTF2 had been training to operate from submarines. My guess is that is what the story was referring to.

"Rare" German U-Boat Discovered off the coast of NS

Casing, think nothing of it; I've made my share of stupid comments on these boards. As for it being too deep, that's not necessarily true. The Titanic (it comes to mind) has been victom to some pretty severe robbing.

"Rare" German U-Boat Discovered off the coast of NS

Read what I said again. For you though, I'll dumb it down. I can see the use in finding these sorts of things for the purpose of safe sea navigation and whatnot, but to purposely look for something like this, knowing full well that the site stands a good chance of being desecrated by treasure...

"Rare" German U-Boat Discovered off the coast of NS

I wonder how long it will be before treasure hunters start to pillage it? I can see the need to discover and catalogue undersea hazards for cable laying ships and whatnot, but I don't see the need to go and find old wrecks where people died just for the hell of it.

Anyone know what Back Yard Wrestling is?

I'd imagine it's an opportunity for you and your male friends to get all hot and sweaty and start groping each other out on the cool, green grass while you each try to straddle the other guy and force him into submission.

Conflict in Darfur, Sudan - The Mega Thread

I hate to agree with MB, but he's right. The militias that are going around use Russian built cargo planes to drop huge bombs on these villages before the light fighters come in to kill the men and boys and rape the women. It certainly seems a more worthy cause than keeping the leader of Kabul...

Joint Task Force 2 (JTF 2) - Canadian Special Forces

There's an ex-CAR guy on another board who mentioned that when the airborne was disbanded, quite a few CAR personnel went on to try out for JTF2, but many didn't make it, including himself. He said that in addition to a large emphasis on map reading, there was something where you would go for a...

    Gaining British Citizenship

SHortbus, if your age is 17, consider getting some post secondary education while you're still young and able to do it with the least disruption to ordinary life. A RM serves a lifetime commitment of 20 something years (Queen's contract, something like that....?) after which you'll be at the age...
