Germany Sets Up 500 Billion Euro Defense and Infrastructure Fund

Canada needs to look at establishing something like this. https://financialpost.com/pmn/business-pmn/germany-will-set-up-e500-billion-defense-and-infrastructure-fund We could build both military and strategic assets such as pipelines, roads, and railways.

    Replacing the Subs

If this article is correct, it seems like about 3-4 years to build, so IOC around 5 years later, especially for a new class, might be a bit optimistic, but it's still clearly the quickest of the options...

    Trump administration 2024-2028

I agree. It seemed like an ambush.

    Replacing the Subs

Is it possible to sole source a project this large based on the FRI responses? I would think an RFP would still be needed to flesh out the details...

Bit of Irving marketing, but it's pretty well done. Still waiting for that CSC contract to be signed....

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

I think we could satisfy the US with something like the following presentation: Look at all the US-built stuff what we have bought recently : F35, P8, Aegis, Spy 7, ESSM, etc..(we could toss Chinook and C130J in there as well, for good measure). Look at what we are planning to buy: E7, Abrams...

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

I agree, but at least make the commitment public.

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

Has no one in government calculated the cost of going to 2% versus a 3-4 point contraction of GDP as a result of Trump smacking us with Tariffs? It's no secret he's using this threat to push us to spend more on defence.

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

We need this kind of publicity: https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/america-endorses-british-defence-spending-boost/ WTF do the Liberals not understand?? It's mind boggling.

Government hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

No, I think it's mostly the leader that would be their undoing. Most people I know dislike and distrust PP. To be honest, I'm not the biggest fan either. I'd much rather have someone with some substance as opposed to a career politician. Still going to vote PC, because the Liberal government has...

RCMP to Order 14 New Helos

Looks like the RCMP is taking good advantage of the new border security budget. https://verticalmag.com/news/rcmp-looking-to-add-14-multi-role-helicopters-to-aviation-fleet/

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

Yeah, the Scottish brogue was pretty thick, so you're probably right, I just misunderstood. There is no way they could have reduced steel by 30%! :)

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

Really a shame we can't build another with that kind of efficiency improvement from JSS1 to JSS2. A little puzzled by how they reduced steel by 30% however...

CMMA - replacing the CP140 Aurora

I have a newfound appreciation for what the current CP-140s are capable of: https://www.journal.forces.gc.ca/vol21/no2/page26-eng.asp Seems like a shame to scrap them when the P-8s arrive. I wonder if they could be put into another role, such as pure surveillance, once the ASW is picked up by...

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

Yeah, I wasn't sure about the hull, so good to know. Makes sense. However, they definitely have some experience jamming capability into small ships, so I still think they could be helpful being involved in some way with the design of the CMMC.

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

All good points. I think everyone on this forum would agree that there needs to be some creative thinking applied to this problem,. Either we build out another modern shipyard that is not hampered by the tonnage constraints of the NSS, thus offering some shipbuilding "buffer" capacity, or we...
