The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

I've suggested before that having a 4/4.5 Gen fighter for the NORAD role instead of the F-35 would be less of an negative operational impact on the CAF then it would be a negative logistical and support impact.

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

I see this as more of a type of draft registry and perception exercise than any real force development program. Firstly I think the chance of Canada actually deploying a force of hundreds of thousands of troops in a conflict highly unlikely. I certainly don't see us shipping Divisions worth of...

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

I'm of the opinion that we should go with the full F-35 fleet. Some people are suggesting that we should go with a split fleet. I'm simply pointing out that the best fit for a 2nd platform is the F-15EX. Is that likely to happen? No. For exactly the reason you point out.

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

I'd agree with you that the F-35 may be a bit of overkill for the NORAD role but if you're going to go with a 2nd platform you need to pick something that prioritises range, payload, interoperability with US platforms and ideally a 2nd seat for controlling CCV's. To my mind the only aircraft...

Indirect Fires Modernization Project - C3/M777 Replacement

This to me is really the key for Canada. Any major conflict anywhere in the World will need munitions in large volumes. Volumes that even the major nations are having trouble producing. This is where Canada should focus its efforts...both for our own defence and to contribute to the...

    CH-146 Griffon

Personally the bet I'd make and where I'd put my development funding is the broad field of autonomy/uncrewed systems. Looking at exactly what the uncrewed/autonomous system looks like is not the point...sure the US is dropping the MQ-8C platform, but they are not dropping the concept of an...

    CH-146 Griffon

Fully agree. I do think there is still a place for crewed Maritime Helicopters as part of a crewed-uncrewed system. There are lots of non-wartime roles they play in addition to their ASW role and some things like anti-piracy missions for example require human judgement to avoid serious...

Maybe that modernization should include turning them into uncrewed platforms something like the MQ-8C Fire Scout. Keep them relevant and useful in a modern war and in the meantime consolidate our manned rotary wing fleet into the AW101 platform. Standardizes training and logistics, eliminates...

    EW, Drones and Jamming

I doubt that any peacetime military can adapt as quickly as a military that is at war. Neither the urgency or the opportunity are really there. How can your peacetime units and industry adapt and innovate without an opponent constantly challenging you and confronting you with unexpected...

RUMINT of Canada wanting more C-17's

I'm not hung up on the specific quantity of 20. However, based just on our Latvia commitment and the need to have a contingency to move things in defence of Canada I'm pretty confident that 5 won't be enough if the SHTF. If when the balance of requirements for the CAF is assessed and the...

RUMINT of Canada wanting more C-17's

According to the minutes of this Standing Committee on National Defence meeting, "Currently 400 vehicles have been deployed for the support of Latvia".
