Unnecessary?  I don't think so.  Most potential recruits usually have their head on straight, but for the ones that don't, this is who the post is for.  If this post can shake some sense into the heads of even one percent of the fantasy soldiers then it isn't in vain and is not unnecessary.

You may be misunderstanding me, flashman.  I suggest, that shooting fundamentals should be taught first with irons and then lead into optics.  I believe that a variety of optics should be made available.  Fight with any sight you can fight best with, whether it be Aimpoint, ACOG, Eotech, S&B...

As much as I like the idea of the light being weapon mounted, if it were possible I would want the light away from my body at all times.  Like anything though, to be utilized properly it requires practice (a lot of) to become proficient with.  Edited - didn't understand Brihard's post
